Here's a batch of 5 of my third attempt at cork basing. Getting super happy with the results now, the feeling is akin to when I started using drybrushing.
Anyone else want to share a story about when they discovered a technique they now use all the time?

As soon as I am done with all the deckplating bases from my SH project, I am going to have a go with cork! To think last time I made a rock base, it was out of GS lol

Another (and perhaps more fun ) way to get cork is to use bottle's corks.
I use a hobby knife to cut them in blocks or sheets and then tear the sides with my hands to make them rough.

You can also buy sheets of cork, for about 5 bucks, for 4 square foot sheets of cork at Wall-Mart. I did that, and I've probably got more cork than I will EVER need!

This discussion is absurd. The mental gymnastics on display here are appalling. The combat familiar gives the DP two attacks with a specific profile. The special rule modifies the DP's attacks, no matter how it got those attacks. The CF's attacks are at AP 2. Anything else is stupid. |

Lol, that would probably only be worth it if I started using it to make terrain. The 6" coaster I'm using at the moment has already based 4 of my Heavy Warjacks for my Warmachine army, and even after cutting off enough for these 5 I've barely put a dent into 1 of them.

Do you just find superglue is enough to hold plastics onto the cork, or is pinning needed?

When it comes to gluing the plastic base to the cork, superglue works just fine, but I recommend pinning the models on the cork, for extra cautiouness.

I use a product called Liquid Nails (available at the Home Despot). Essentially an industrial strength adhesive. The stuff has the consistency of chewed buble gum, fills in any gaps, and you don't need alot. I give the stuff 12 hours to dry/cure.

I used to pin all the way through the cork to the base. A plastic model you might be able to get away with just gluing if it's a display piece and not going to get bumped around much, but pinning is so quick.

How and what do you pin it with?

For those in AUS:
Cork tiles from your local retailer/trade distributor (Bunnings or equiv) are about AUD$3 each... I have just based an entire Warmachine faction (Cryx), a Malifaux crew (12 minis - 30mm up to 50mm bases) and I am doing the Sisters of Battle force with it also...
Alternatively, you can also use woodchips from your garden... any variety, I use Pine from my mum's and grandparents' gardens... (I also hear that McDonald's gardens are also a good place to look)
Remember, hobbyists, a good coat of paint can turn everyday items into almost anything.

I used superglue for the cork to the base and regular white glue for the grass and sand.

This is quite standard basing.

Can i see what the corks look like before hand?
And the steps you do before they are able to be glued onto the base?
I have no experience with that material at all

Have been wondering about a base for Bael (Anima Tactics)
seeing that dread on the thread has given me an Idea
Combining with using the No Nails for the lava the corl basing could be just what I am looking for

I've used it, and I don't wear gloves when using it, but I don't do shots of it, either - if that helps.

I have never eaten No nails so is hard to say
Take the usual precautions, follow instructions etc should be fine.
Never use gloves when using but perhaps should.
Also not seen a health warning on the tubes either

As with almost anything except for water you're advised to wear gloves, this, as far as safety warnings on data shets go, is as relaxed as you're ever likely to get : http://www.zepfix.com/File/NoMoreNails%20Coshh.pdf
Seen harsher warnings on medicine bottles.

I've never done this, but I've looked into it.
As I understand, you should boil the wood before using it. Apparently, it can be quite the haven for bacteria and whatnot that can eat away at the wood and your paint, once it's sealed up inside, ruining your mini.
