I have to admit, I like the Stormraven - in fluff terms. I'm having a hard time figuring out an effective way of using it, though. I don't run dreadnoughts, so its ability to drag one around is wasted on me, and I also run a predominantly jump-heavy army. The ability to transport jump infantry is sweet, but only being able to drag six of them isn't. Don't have much use for it.

Should I just stop trying to find a niche for them in my list, or can a Stormraven or two find a place in a jumper army? If so, what's the best way to utilize them?

If your assault squads etc, are 10 man, don't bother with the Stormravens; the fact that you don't use dreads consolidates this point.

Yes, without the DN, one of the major advantages of the vehicle goes away... :-) Me, I like the DC DN with Talons as an assaulter, but if you don't want DN's, you're probably better off running a LR and jump troopers in it's shadow or the like...

Yeah, the Stormraven is a very unique vehicle. It is the only transport for jump infantry and dreads, but its low AV really hurts it.

I like ravens for the ability to transport a 5 man DC with lemartes, plus a DC dread. Since lemartes is forced to come with a JP, only the raven can transport him, but I am not forced to pay for the 5 dc's JP. So I see it as saving 75 points, or that the raven is only 125 points. And the DC dread is so sweet. Total cost is like 600 points, but you get 3 decent units out of the deal.

As an aside, the storm raven does have a nice amount of shooting with the silly blood missiles of blood. If facing down a guard list, putting it in reserve to get the alpha strike is not a terrible idea.

I have to agree with this. If you're not willing to run Dreads or units without their Jump packs to take real advantage of the Stormraven then there doesn't seem to be much point in wasting the points on them. Sorry.
