Ok,

I have a Ultraforge Vrock model. I'm becoming disenfranchised with WHFB, and am looking to convert my Demon army to play both systems. I want to use my nice pretty model, but honestly, reading the Demon Codex, he looks like a 250 point Bolt of Tzeench that hits on a 2+. Am I missing something? Is there a way to use him very effectively?

Also, I want to be able to kill Land Riaders, are Soul Grinders worth taking?

Thanks.

Use him as a daemon prince.

So he's 230 Points for T5, 3+ Armor, 4+ Invuln and a Bolt of Tzeench that hits on a 2+.

If I'm going to counts as I guess I should just use him as a Fateweaver? I really don't want to go down that route though. :(

I'm biased here because I'm not a fan of the big bird. For me, there isn't anything that a LoC can do that 2x Tzeentch Chariot Heralds can't do for cheaper.
Having said that, I'm all about trying to maximize what you have and what you like instead of just saying "use X instead".

LoC brings a few nice things to the table. First is the 3++ save. Think of how happy TH/SS Terminators are to have this but you have it on a fast moving MC. This will let you absorb a fair amount of incoming fire and doesn't limit your movement to hiding behind cover (for the cover save, not to deny LOS). Second is you have Wings, speed is always helpful for obvious reasons. Third, you have some decent shooting abilities. Lastly, while you're weaker then most other GDs, you are no slouch in close combat.

Tactically, use your shooting to try and open up a transport, then assault what pops out. This is a big advantage you have over other GD who have to assault the transport themselves first.
Use yourself as a tarpit against Power Weapon users or other MCs. A 3++ save and T6 makes you fairly durable and you can use your various powers to give yourself the edge.

What you don't want to do is try to take on elite units with lots and lots of attacks or big horde squads because you just don't have the oomph to plow through those kinds of squads without being drug down.

Also, I want to be able to kill Land Riaders, are Soul Grinders worth taking?

Unless you're planning on assaulting the Raider, Soulgrinders with Tongue are not a valid counter. 1 BS3 shot =/= anti-AV14 firepower.
Screamers and MCs are your best anti-AV14 choices. Even Flamers in sufficient quantity can probably dismantle it through glances.

Yeah that was my only other thought as to what to use him as. I am not a daemon player myself and thats why i suggested to use him as a DP because i have done so myself with Vrok. I also like to use him as my SGD for my 1k sons. Sorry i know i am not much help but you really only have a handful of MCs that you could use him as.

So lets recap on the LoC:

-Either take him as is and live with the inefficiency
-Counts-As Fateweaver

So lets move on to other Demon stuff:

-Soul Grinders in 2's or 3's aren't worth taking for anti-AV14? Yes 1 BS3 shot isn't great, but they should be durable, draw AT fire from the MC's, and in redundancy should take out the heavy stuff? Or have I been away too long?

What's a recommended build for Demon Princes or is avoiding Heavy Support a good idea in general?

Funny enough, the way soulgrinders kill landraiders is hth. I wouldn't take the railgun shot. Deepstrike and fleet of foot surprise a lot of people.

Winged demon princes are decent at killing lr in hth as well.

I think they are. I'm not sure if I'm sold on the S10 shot. Say all three come down. I think its 75 pts for the shot on 3 grinders. If you're all in range 1.5 of those shots hit, .25 glance, .5 penetrating hits. Basically you are stretching your luck to do anything even with 3 S10 shots. Then every turn after that you should probably by fleeting and assaulting. Their silly amount of S10 CC attacks will go a lot farther, even vehicles moving at cruising speed (which means that aren't shooting). Plus 75pts is almost a screamer squad which is better at av 14 than the s10 shots and rocks normal tanks.

If you have a lot of tzeentch stuff bolt of tzeench can bunch AV14. It will only happen 1/36 times even if you hit but it's something to keep in mind.
