So looking through the new Codex and trying to absorb everything I can (strat-n-tacts...lists...wargear/weapon options...etc...) I found this little neat toy = the Webway Portal.
Okay, this is not actually a new toy for Dark Eldar - but the use for it other than allowing an alternate reserve arrival point is something new...and I'd like to call it the Webway Prison. Basically its a small blast marker that counts as impassable terrain so here are a few applications for using the prison:
01. Two WWPs could be dropped near something like a Land Raider - one directly in front of the vehicle and one directly behind the vehicle = result, the vehicle can no longer move from its current position.
02. In the Capture and Mission mission it would be possible to deploy a Troop unit near your deployment zone objective marker, then drop WWPs around it - preventing enemy units from getting near that objective marker...you could then simply contest (or capture) the opposing objective marker.
03. Consider a large based enemy model - potential close combat killer ( Trygon..Dreadnought..Wraithlord..Etc ) place three of the WWPs in a clover pattern with spaces between the marker = as the Land Raider example above, the model could no longer move the rest of the game.

It could work...if units other than HQ can take webway portals.
There is a flaw though...jump and jet units can simply bypass impassable terrain. Eldar wouldn't even blink an eye.

Right, attach Haemonculi (with WWP) to a Raider based unit (Wracks)

Right, not full proof obviously because of "flight" types - but still viable (wouldn't call it a flaw though).

seems like a lot of points and effort to simply trap a unit that is not even really worth the points or models invested. as dark eldar, why not, (if your that close) heat lance or otherwise nuke the bugger? a "trapped" model can still shoot back at you and otherwise cause issues, and jump infantry just ignore it. vrs a dead one that cant do anything. personally i dont think DE have the time to nitpick around setting up the perfect WWP "trap". just kill or "capture" the thing and be done with it.

I wouldn't see it as useful unless specifically trapping a good CC Geared model.

There is way too much setup and reliance on fragile models to make this a viable tactic.
You might pull it off once or twice, but I bet the times you fail will just be sad.

Yeah what the others said. The idea of diverting your HQ choices and having to re-adjust your tactics simply to have a go at trapping a LR is simply a bad idea.
1: You need at least 2 Web Portals. Costly, and needs 2 HQ choices in position.
2: Getting your HQ's in position before/without getting shot up.
3: Only works on some units, many can simply ignore the effects.
4: Trapped units can still shoot, and will most likely cause serious damage on your Webway units which arrive or are left in the open after activating the portals.
