I need feed back so I can start collecting this list and try it out a few times and get comfortable with it.

As well I need time to have it painted and based (points are being awarded for this.)

I have no idea of what to expect at this level of points other than MEQ's will have a low model count. I need pointers here as to what I will be facing and I've tried to tailor my list as take on anything list but I'm not sure.

The restrictions are:
(mandatory)
1 HQ, 2 Troops,
(optional)
1 heavy support OR fast attack,
1 Elites.
Other points maybe spent on HQ and troops choices.

The missions are standard rule book except that:
''Capture and Control'' always has Dawn of war deployment
''Seize Ground'' has Spear Head deployment and there are always three objectives
''Annihilation'' has Pitched Battle deployment

And now for the list.

HQ:

PCS: 4xmelta. 90pts

Troops:

Infantry Platoon

PCS: 4xFlamers. 50pts

Infantry Squad: GL, Commissar w/PW. 100pts

Infantry Squad: GL, Melta Bombs. 60pts

Infantry Squad: Flamer, PW. 65pts

Penal Legion: 80pts

Heavy support:

2xGriffons. 150pts

Total: 595pts

So I have 5pts to spare and I don't know what to spend it on. So any and all help is very much appreciated

At 600 points, I wouldn't expect too much AV 14 on the board. You might...-might- get one land raider or maybe a leman.

I would run a list like this:

HQ:
CCS w/ 2x plasma, autocannon, melta bombs, chimera w/ heavy flamer

150 points

Troops:
Infantry Platoon

PCS w/ 4x GL
IS: Flamer, Commisar w/ PW
IS: Flamer, Sergeant w/ PW
220 points

Vet squad w/ 3x melta, chimera w/ hull heavy flamer 155 points

HS:
Griffon 75 points, (heavy flamer optional.)

Total 600

Good burnination properties, good light armor, decent heavy armor, some anti-meq measures, more protection for your CCS to bark orders at your infantry platoon.

that seems like quire a nice list but I feel that al'rahem would be needed as the platoon would get left behind other wise and quite subject to any deepstriking units

Not necessarily, it just depends on your playstyle. Al'rahem would be a huge pointsink for a low total or poins available.

You can issue move move move! to your infantry platoon for them to catch up, or you can play them defensively on an objective game if you don't have them combined.

Flank your platoon with your vehicles to give them a fair share of deep strike protection if you're going to advance them all forward.

You don't always have to move 12 inches on your first turn with your vehicles, after all.

I suppose you don't (and probably shouldn't) assault with guard which means moving slower in transports to get more shooting (damn me for playing CSM and orks)

If you play CSM and Orks, it's entirely possible to run swarm-close combat guard. Blob 3 infantry squads together with a Commissar (maybe a Priest if you have the points) and give them as many power weapons as you can. You'll find that the sheer mass of a blob Guard army will overwhelm the enemy, and the Commissar will make it so it doesn't matter if you get plastered. Take the wounds on the regular Guardsmen, and preserve your core of 12 power weapon attacks a turn. 16 on the charge!

Put special weapons in your PCS, and use them to take out tanks and other things if need be, and maybe take some artillery to soften the enemy up before your Guard charge hits home. Read Ailaros's battlereports for examples of this play style succeeding dramatically.

@ChrisWWII:

That was what I was trying to go for so would dropping one of the Flamers in the PCS and buying another PW for the blob from my original list this would fill out the points and give me something similar to Ailaros's lists (I think)
