I'm working on a port city im making for warmachine. Im uploading pics first and i'll come back and explain everything, and update.
[Thumb - photo (29).jpg]
First up i have the back of the table of building. I used a very thick plywood as ive had warping issues in the past. I may have taken it too far though.

[Thumb - photo (30).jpg]
I built the table to be contained within these rails. I

[Thumb - photo (31).jpg]
This shows how i went overboard with the ply.

[Thumb - photo (32).jpg]
I used a Dremel scroll saw to cut my foam, it makes quick easy work, the marker is for drawing the cut lines on the foam of course. The size of the foam made cutting diffucult and i had to do it with many cuts removing chunks and working it down.

[Thumb - photo (33).jpg]
I knew i wanted a fancy compas rose in the center of the town, i aslo wanted it to be stepped with a lower and upper teir.

[Thumb - photo (34).jpg]
I traced the plate for the circle and then sent it through the saw. The divet represents how diffucult it was to cut a piece this big.

[Thumb - photo (35).jpg]
Using a pencil i started drawing stone work into the exposed front. Here it is vital to make the stones random, and organic looking. The staces between the stones were accidental, but i feel it adds to the look.(the pencil dug up little chunks of foam)

[Thumb - photo (36).jpg]
This is where my madness begins.

[Thumb - photo (37).jpg]
Using a pen i started drawing various sized stones to represent the cobble stone. Id seen the technique elsewhere and figured i could replicate it.

[Thumb - photo (38).jpg]
When drawing the stones i made sure to press deep enough for the lines to be visible through the many coats of paint required to protect the foam.

[Thumb - photo (39).jpg]
Time to make the doughnuts...

[Thumb - photo (40).jpg]
The friggen circles man, theyre closing in around me...hahahhahahha, help:(

Looking very interesting. I sympathise with your circle drawing... I'm currently glueing together about 8.9 zillion matchsticks* to create duckboards, walls and fireing steps as well as bases for my models

*I bought a pack of 14,000 and have hardly even made a dent in it yet despite making quite a few lengths of duckboards

Thanks for the intrest guys, yes drawing the circles is mind numbing, and easily the most painful part of this construction so far. 20 minutes of circle drawing felt like hours. If you got an hour left to live, do this. It will feel like eternity. Also there will be waves, but ive never used the stuff before(it's Vallejo) It's a gel like water effect and says to use a putty knife, so i'll see what happens.
Also no boats i think, but multiple piers and sub piers.

Very vibrant sea there - I still think it would look good with some white wave crests

Should look good with a few buildings.

Wow what a great table! I have to say that I agree with Silver maybe a few white wave crests around the peers would look pretty sweet. Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing more!

Whoa, that's really come along. The cobblestones look good for how simple the technique was. Generally good color choices, and the whole board looks like fantastic fun to play on.
