Is it just me or are the exorcist models from forge world awful?

seriously the GW model is far cooler than the forge world one.

Isn't the point of forge world to produce cooler, better looking versions of GW models (albeit at a premium price)? The FW model looks like a re-badged whirlwind.

No, I think they're pretty cool. It's the GW model that's god-awful. Sure, the FW one could use a bit more decoration on the sides, but the actual turret looks like an actual fething turret, and so it's inherently better than the mobile pipe organ.

I figured you would be pretty quick to chime in Melissia. I just think the GW one looks really fluffy. It's a F***ing pipe organ that rains death from the sky! I think thats pretty BA. It makes them stand out on the table from other similar looking armies.

P.S. loving the codex rankings!

It's a pipe organ, which means it does not look like it's on a turret and it's unclear where the missiles come from.

I've had people attempt to tell me I have to measure the distance from the tip of the very top pipe in order to try and reduce the range of the weapon.

I really like the FW model, I can't see riding into battle on top of the GW model, the enemy would laugh at me.

GW's exorcist doesn't shoot rockets! Who gave you that idea?
The exorcist carries either Ray Charles or Billy Preston with it and the extreme awesomenesssss coming from the organ solos they're playing destroys the enemies of humanity

The Games Workshop one is too over the top, but I agree that the Forge World model looks awful. It's just way too boring and plain.

i like the GW model more because 40k is an over-the-top game and the exorcist is an over the top tank in an over the top army.

in light of that, i would never buy one as they're a) hideously overpriced and b) a huge PITA to paint, like all vehicles, but moreso.

better just to get 3 rhinos, stick some pointed dowels in a Krazy Glue bottle, save yourself 60-140 bucks right out the door, and hit the tabletop.

I'd hardly call it awful, just uninspiring.

I prefer the GW version but the main issue is the fact that they are an absolute nightmare to build, I haven't come across a GW model that fits together worse than the Exorcist.

The metal part that the rest of the organ sits on doesn't fit on the plastic body of the vehicle, doesn't fit at all, not even close; I own three and they've all been as frustratingly bad to assemble

I think it should be pointed out that the FW model came first and GW reworked it. FW can take a GW thing and make it cooler and so can GW. It is the benefit of refinement over innovating or creating something new.

DoW (though I suppose you'll DOWbt its credibility... heheh) depicts them as little miniature missiles that fly out of each pipe on the organ and home down on the target in a barrage.

I have no idea what the tabletop rules are, mind, does it only fire one shot according to the codex or is a torrent of smaller missiles acceptable?

As for the model itself, no idea why the Ecclesiarchy would ever put it on the design board... but it still looks awesome anyway.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh and the Forgeworld model is what the Exorcist would look like if it were actually practical.

And relating to what I said above: It just occurred to me that they modelled the Forgeworld one as having a bunch of small missiles, so it's hardly unreasonable to suppose those could fit down organ pipes.

Inboud...

I quite enjoy the styling of the current GW Exorcist. The organ design fits in with the rogue-trader esque background that is mentioned, but never fully explored in this edition. Similar models that try and follow this aesthetic are the Throne of Judgement, and the Penitent Engines. Although I agree the Exorcist's design could be realised in a more sartorially elegant fashion.

FW's tanks have always had an emphasises on being more true to real-world technology, but i tend to agree with the OP- they are incredibly plain. Some fluting, or depictions of the saints on the barrels would tie the model into the current range more effectively. However, FW may have been operating under the idea that giving customers options to field a heavily gothic, or more real-world army would be financially sound.

It fires d6 S8 AP1 missiles in a direct fire pattern (NOT an indirect fire). It is not an artillery weapon like in DoW:Soulstorm. Actually it's closer to how the Skyray operates in DoW: Dark Crusade.

GW model looks like a roaving buff tank rather than a missle shooter. I think it's the most impractical looking tank GW makes and just makes the SoB seem silly.

It's too over the top. I can appreciate the fact that a lot of what's in 40K is rather silly. But the dorkiness of this vehicle is one of the two big reasons why I can't bring myself to actually consider starting a Sister army. In that regard the FW design is better, although I don't really like it either.

Of course, the real question is why the Sisters can't just use a Whirlwind?

Because Sisters don't need any help killing infantry in cover.

The Exorcist fills a large hole in the Sisters' capabilities-- long-ranged anti-tank. It's why almost every Sisters list has at least two of them, usually three. Because they NEED it.

Pipe Organ looks silly. I've only ever owned the Forge World model, and have to say that it's one of my favorite tank models. I like the simplicity.

I prefer both the GW Whirlwind and the FW Hyperios to the FW Exorcist, so there's no reason for me to even consider buying it. The GW Exorcist at least does something new, even if you don't like the concept of Stalin's Organ taken to its illogical conclusion.

That's one of the things that Forgeworld do. The other things they do are produce models and rules that expand on the 40K universe, and make models of things that GW haven't got around to doing themselves yet.

The Forgeworld Exorcist fits into the second of those categories. It was produced years before the Witch Hunters codex introduced the Exorcist (with Pipe Organ-toting kit) as a standard option.
