Intro
Hey everyone. I've been playing since the start of 3rd and over my 10+yrs of playing I've accumulated many armies over varying amounts of pts. What I realized though, is that I am MEQ addicted and needed another new army, this time without a 3+sv. I have, in order of starting the army, Doom Eagles (Space Marines) 1,500pts, Emperor's Children (Chaos Space Marines) 4,000pts, Tyranids (retired) 850pts, Necron (sold) 1,850pts, Tau (retired) 850pts, Word Bearers (Chaos Space Marines) 5,00pts, Svog 227th (Imperial Guard) 1500pts. Each of the armies exclusively feature trophies from the previous army (exception is Word Bearers), denoting a fluff grudge against my own armies. I've been a member here for years, yet no camera or noticeable things to post.
Hope you guys like

Fluff
The Svog 227th

Based in a harsh, disease-ridden wetlands, the Svog 227th are the Armoured Company which is deployed to combat highly-mobile land-based threats in the Sector. The companies garb is traditionally green to blend in with the planets swamps, and brass armor which is easily maintained. Many consider the planet an Agri-world, but in all truth their are very few resources to harvest and the planets true worth is its location and relation it has with the Ecclesiarchy. Upon Inquisitional mandate, they were forced to follow a war-band of Word Bearers into the Eye of Terror after the ransacking of Sav II, a nearby planet.

While in the Eye of Terror, the units primarily stayed inside their Chimeras with the hatches bolted shut. Only is desperation did they leave their vehicles, for not even re-breathers truly helped in the planet's atmospheres...the taint of Chaos was everywhere, and not wearing a re-breather was certain death.

Eventually they found the coordinates of the Dark Apostle on a planet which essentially mirrored Svog. The Inquisitor fell early in the battle to a squad of Chaos Terminators who teleported into the command bunker, his corpse taken as a sacrifice to the Dark Apostle. Unknowingly a great mass of Chaos Power was about to be unleashed.

At the height of the battle, where the Svog 227th were about to seize the enemy's 3rd and final fortress, the Chaos energy was unleashed. Despite being inside their vehicles with re-breathers attached, it didn't matter overall. Instantly, everyone outside had their flesh completely stripped off their bodies, their organs melting, and died a horrifically painful death. However, those inside the tanks met a different fate. Their insides vanished, organs, flesh, tissue, all gone...nothing but their skeletons remained. However, somehow, Emperor-be-it, faith alone kept the regiment fighting and 'alive'.

The regiment fought on, appearing as corpses possessed with the Emperor's might. Despite being in complete panic at what had occurred, the 227th fought on with zeal, obeying the Commissariat's will. Eventually seizing the Fortress and destroying or scattering most of the warband; albeit the Dark Apostle and a few others who had fled before the breach.

Now viewed as an unholy force of Chaos by the Imperium, and declared Hereticus, the unit still faithfully serves the God-Emperor. Trekking about in the pursuit of the Dark Apostle, trying to undo the wrong which has claimed the 227th's fate.

Looking for tips on water effects for bases, since a 'Vietnam' style of base I feel would compliment their Bone colour, green cloth, and bronze armour well.
This thread as of now is mostly a transplant from over on Warseer, so I will periodically be updating it with pics from over there.

Your concept is a lot of fun. I really love the psyker you made but the third commander with the pike seems to have absurdly large wings on his helmet.

The ghouls from Fallout and your models are both awesome.

How are you planning to make your vehicles? Are they going to be in peak condition or will they also show some form of wear and tear (skeletal chimeras)?

I really love this army.
Primaris Psyker is among my favorite models in the army
Third Commander is my stand-in for Army Company Commander. That was sort of the idea actually, since 40k is so over the top anyways, its sorta of comedic relief and I really liked the old Dark Elf Beast Master Pike tip. Figured since it was the most ornate weapon it should go on the commander.
Funny, never played fallout...
I'll post some vehicles soon. Most are just IG Chimeras with Chaos Spikes and some rust, yet really haven't had the chance to work on them.

All 'guardsmen' have bare skulls (or an IG helmet over), while 'officers' have VC helmets

What a great idea! I wish I had thought of that. I play Vampire Counts in Fantasy, so an undead Imperial Guard army would have been right up my alley.

MY best-bud plays VC and i was jealous of all the painting possibilities on them. As stated before, IG is the complete opposite of CSM, so thought I'd try 'em out in a way people had never seen before.

Really nice idea, but the look of your figures would seem to better support a 'Traitor Guard' type background as opposed to Loyalist Guard. Although i guess you could combine the two - e.g. the Chaos curse means they honestly _believe_ they still have their old bodies and think they're still fighting for the Emperor, that's the kind of trickery that would appeal to Tzeentch's sense of humour...

Actually in the pics I will post soon, I have moved them to be Chaos IG. Really liked the Imperial fluff, but for conversion and painting purposes had to make them more Chaotic.
I actually like to stick to Slaanesh and Undivided. Undivided in this case mostly for ascetic purposes.

I like the idea, I'm not keen on the models however.

They are close to being good, there just seems too much of "that will do" to these.

I'd spend more time making the conversoins look believable, it would look far better if your guardmen trooper skeles held their weapons in 2 hands rather than just hold heavy rifles like pistols.

Its a good start but spend more time on a few models rather than hammering out many sub standard ones.

keep going!

Its interesting that you mention that

Specifically since originally I wanted all models to be Grave Guard, but opt'd instead for them to be Veterans and Officers only (since they look more dynamic and armoured)

Unfortunatly lots of the picture where models are hodling their Lasgun with both hands are not shown. I have roughly 2 per squad of 9 (since HW team in each). The issue though is primarily making the model grip the gun. Since there are no open-palms in the entire range that makes it rather hard to model. While much easier for models like Grenade Launchers and HW Teams, this is still an overall problem as open-hands are desired but not very feasible.

Since I won't be able to touch the army for a few more months (since abroad now), I plan for lots o quick updates then. Particularly bases and maybe a lightening of Devlan Mud application. When the Veterans are done though I hope that they are the focus of the army.

Maybe you could just paint Cadian hands as gloves? Just GS some cuffs around the wrist. You could even cut little bits out of the "gloves" and paint bone underneath. Normaly painting hands as gloves looks wierd since they're usualy too slim to be gloves. I don't see that being a problem though with guys who don't have skin.

Thats not the theme I ever intended, but get that alot when I play in small tournies/casual games.
Instead of 'always being angry, all the time', its more like 'always dead, all the time'...after all IG aren't known for their resilience...
I feel its a very different approach to what people generally do with Catachans and Tomb Kings mixes
Soon the army will host a nice chaotic feel to it, with lots of symbols and depictions

Hey everyone. Updated Fluff and news:
I'm back in the USA again on Jan19th, so can start updating again. Missed this army alot. Will be getting 2 more Chimeras right off the get-go, and some large bases for Missile Launcher HW Teams. Then I just need to spray paint the Tanks and start detailing.

Svog 227th Chaos Fluff V1.0
What drives a man to the Ruinous Powers? What desperation, what hopelessness, what sick, perverted thoughts would make a man forsake his very humanity?

Svog's planetary location was in the _____ Nebula. A planet of little worth, even its location held minimal strategic importance. It's surface mostly consisting of marsh and bog, with near-minimal fertile land, its only saving grace were its mineral depositories; brown-tinted glowstones, which appeared everywhere around the planets surface. Svog did prove though to be a formidable training grounds, its near-Deathworld environment proving to be of great martial worth. The large swamps made it a perfect training ground for transport-based missions. The environment was harsh, and those that learned how to deal with it survived.

Also among the abundant levels of swampland on Svog was their troopers pride and eagerness. The close-knit order of the 227th ensured a well-disciplined, obedient, and readily-armed force. The atmosphere was breathable, but dangerous and often hazardous, so troopers used rebreathers as if they were an extension of themselves. The wild life on Svog is reknown for being lethal if it gets up close. The units namesake, the Spiked Skull Toad is particularly deadly, a two-meter long giant toad known for its hyper-aggressive behavior, poisoned spine, and bone colored head that can swallow a guardsmen whole in one gulp. To fend off most things on Svog, long-range weaponry has always preferred: with Autocannons being preferred for their stable yet powerful stopping power to take down larger beasts such as Marsh Fiends, and grenade launchers for taking out swarms of lesser beings while still being able to take down Toads, Carnivorous Bog Hounds and Giant Marsh Newts.

Sucked into a Warpstorm in M39.1, Svog's planetary environment shifted from murky and dangerous, to dreary and deadly. While within the Malestorm Svog fought for what seemed like centuries against hordes of piratical and daemonic entities. Their transports becoming miniature-havens during the Chaotic eddies and storms, proving to be bunkers against the acid rain and hordes of unknown beasts that assailed them.

With all hope lost versus a raid from the dread legion of Word Bearers, the Coronal did something even more drastic then giving into defeat, he gave in to the Chaotic whispers. In the face of defeat, he payed the ultimate price for victory. The cackling of dark energies completely consumed Svog. The air grew thicker, more humid, lightning jagged all across the planets sky, the atmosphere turned a hazy purple, marshes were light ablaze with green fire, there were screams from any guardsmen whom had miraculously survived so far. The officer heard a maniacal voice boom inside his head, 'The legion will always serve in the name of Chaos.' For ______, there was a sign of relief, and hope in his heart that entwined with his desperation. The ground around him cracked apart, revealing bogs that gleamed iridescent dark green lights. At that moment, _____ then knew what he had done...

_____'s look of horror was so immense, so frightened, that even a lifetime of brutal warfare could not have prepared him for what was going to happen. Where his comrades and fellow subordinates once lay dead, now slowly rose corpses. Gauntly figures began to emerge all around him, slowly pulling them self to their feet as their skin slowly dripped off. He watched in horror as a fate worse then death awaited those that served under him. Organs slowly melted away, revealing raw and rotting sinew around him. The guardsmen started to gather around him slowly, shambling towards him as their equipment slowly deteriorated, with only their weapons remaining unscathed. He saw hordes of dead guardsmen rise to meet him. Lifeless bodies slowly gathering around his position, bleached bone faces glaring with no eyes at his very location. Traumatized, he fired his laspistol at the closest skeleton in the horde near him. It fell apart upon impact, then he shot again, and again, and again until his power cell was to the point of overheating, he was completely surrounded. In unison, the entire horde raised their lasguns high into their air, then crossed it over to their left shoulder: the Svog ceremonial salute. He looked up, and at that moment he know completely what he had done and what had happened. At that very moment he felt an indescribable pain, as his very flesh, organs, sinew, and sanity quickly burned away in a murky green glow, leaving only his skeleton in place clutching his trademark scythe.

Worse of all though, ____ knew what was going on. He had given his existence to Chaos, and Chaos wasn't willing to part so easily on the newly brokered deal. ______ climbed the nearest rock to survey his legion. The 227th had risen, and was his to command once more. Lifeless automatons under his control, listening and awaiting his every order. From under his tunic, _____ glared out with his eyeless head, raised his scythe high into the air and with that motion the undead legion returned back to the firefight.

The Word Bearers were caught by surprise, from the clutches of victory quickly turned to near-defeat. Bolters destroyed skeletons easily as it punctured and destroyed carapace armour, chainswords effortlessly cleaved through bones with no respite, but the 227th still droned forward. Lasfire lit up the purple sky as echos of explosions were all over the continent. Undead platoons fired into the units of Chaos Space Marines, with Autocannons and Grenades suppressing any form of tactical maneuvers they might have had, pinned in position. The legion saw no fear, let alone any comprehension of it. What remained of the 227th's armoured columns blasted away at the traitor marines, with Chimeras tearing down marine after marine with precises Mulitlaser and Heavy Bolter fire, and Leman Ruses destroyed whole squads with every shell. Vendeta's soared overhead, destroying any other forms of armour the Chaos Legions had. The Word Bearer's were forced to retreat back to their Dreadclaws, their task uncompleted. _____ made his way to the Traitor Marines Fortress-Monastary in his Chimera. Exiting just as a hail of Plasma fire ripped into and destroyed his Command vehicle. Entire platoons formed around him, 'dying' in droves as they breached the interior walls. Giant once-Ogryns engaged Chaos Terminators in close quarters, as Veterans used their Melta weaponry with great effect to destroy walls and any Marines foolish enough to try an ambush.

____ had had enough, his price to great to fail. He assailed the command room, and met the Dark Apostle in direct contact...

Hello beautiful denizens of DakkaDakka

Finally back with REAL content. Mostly moved in now, and been painting ~2 skeletons a night for the last week. I know have all the Chimeras and Leman Russ assembled.

Working on lots of little projects now too (some shown): Shotgun Veterans, Techpriests, Missile Launcher HW Teams, Command Squad(s), Infantry Platoon(s), and minor painting touch-ups in general.

Heres my recent works, as always, have away at them (your words can't hurt them, heck they don't even have ears to listen).

I like the new pieces. Is this the skeleton kit from GW you're using? If so, I may need to get some more recent ones; my current bones are from the early 2000s. And still on with the 1 handed stuff... I'd personally cut and repose the arms, to get some rather more balanced looks.

I really love HW Teams. Easily my favorite aspect of the army. I can't wait to base them. I feel the offer a real different visual dynamic then other IG HW Teams do.
This is the current Vampire Counts range.
I didn't want to use the Tomb Kings since many are super old, and don't offer as much detail as the VCs do.
The biggest issue I still have is there is no hand in the fantasy range which 'grips' which I can use. The Musicians arm works well (usually used to hold Autocannon ammo), but I use those ASAP.
If you have noticed, I use lots of old bitz. Like 2nd ed Lasguns, 2nd ed Laspistols, and other older accessories.
