thanks for the kind words

I've been lurking here for years and just finally activated an account so I could show off my anteatermen.

speaking of, a few more:

I tried to cover up the obvious 40K-ness of the terrain piece with weeds and ivy and stuff. hopefully I succeeded. not that there's anything wrong with 40K - it's how I got into the hobby, after all - but light switches and human skulls don't really jibe too well with the setting.

I love these models, I'd never even heard of this Miniatures Company until now. I love the character of the pieces, and your paintjobs and mini dioramas add even more to these figures! Great stuff!

Those are really unique and well painted. I like the break from the endless parade of orks and marines. That scenery is beautiful as well. What piece did you use to make it?

thanks guys! the scenery piece is made from GWs old 40K ruined building sprue, it used to come with the Battlefield Accessories bag I believe. I've had it lying around for years and just finally decided to spruce it up a bit last month. Judging from the first picture I didn't do as good a job covering up all the skulls as I had thought!

The Quar are available in 15mm and 25mm from US outfit Zombiesmith.

There is a bunch of fluff and rules for them too, or you can use them as alien auxiliaries in a Tau army.

It is a fun little company.

Good job on the painting and scenery!

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

LOL @ the automatic assumption they are a GW "counts as". Its possible OP is doing that, but there is a game system for these minis.

Whats my game?

Wow, those are some great paint jobs! I recently bought Songs of our Ancestors (the Quar Skirmish game by Ganesha Games) and am quite impressed. I was planning on buying 15mm quar, but your paintjobs really show off just how sharp the 28mm quar really are.

Also, nice job using the 3rd edition 40k ruins. The newer CoDeath building kits are pretty 40k specific, but I don't think people realizejust how versatile the older-style 40k ruins are. I've got a set that I'm basing up in a generic way for use both with 40k and with 1/144 (n Scale) Mech warfare. As for the skulls, they are present, but not much (if any) more than on many old Christian structures, many of which have some pretty scarey imagery on them.

That figure is a new release from Zombiesmith, intended more for fun than anything else. The first time I saw it though I knew it would make a great statue! The bulk of the figures in the 28mm range carry semiautomatic rifles, though there are also a number of support & specialist weapons. They really are neat figures and they've been dominating my painting table for the last few months, much to the chagrin of my Plague Marines...

As far as what I use them for, there are two rulesets specific to them but I mostly only have time to paint, not play. I have heard of people using them as Tau auxiliaries, as was mentioned, or as a unique Imperial Guard army. With a bit of converting they could fill a number of niches in 40K.

thanks for all the kind words too!

Heh, I do hear that a lot!

The minis are of a race of smallish humanoids called Quar. They have been fighting amongst themselves for pretty much forever. Their planet is at a technology level somewhere between our World War One and the Spanish Civil War. Right now the two main sides are the Crusaders - the ones in the grey shirts in my pictures - and the Royalists. I have a bunch of Royalists but my paint job on them is mostly nasty and needs revising. I do have a cook painted in the royalist colors, though. Caught in the middle are the rest of the population, and those are the minis that are in most of my pictures. I think I like the partisan sculpts the best, though all of them are great with good detail and very quick to paint up.

this is the cook mini I was talking about. unfortunately I don't have a picture of the two furry pigs that he comes with...

to show some of the conversion potential for these guys, this is a mini i made with a flamer -
