Hi,
im just starting putting together a new skaven army. But i'm stabbing in the dark a little as i have not brought the army book as its going to be re released soon.
However in the interim i intend to assemble and paint my whole army so far.
Im planning on feilding units of 40 clan rats, but being new to the game im not sure how best to arrange them. as in how wide should the ranks be?
I could be wrong but I think i need to work this out prior to assembling so i can make sure they will file up neatly.
Also i have 20 plague monks, but they seem to have a option of with a stick and a sword or two swords, which is the better of the two options or does it not matter?
cheers for any help.

Hey buddy, don't know about best sizes (I would go 5x8 or 10x4) but the plague monks are armed with two hand weapons... So both options are identical in game terms

The good part is that you don't have to have a fixed configuration. You can adjust as you see fit within the game.
Myself, I'm going to run 30 rat rgts six-wide.

I tend to run my units 5 wide, whether it be slaves or clan rats. As Skaven you want those ranks to boost your leadership and make your units Steadfast. Yes you can get by with only a few extra ranks, but once you hit close combat you're going to lose a few. Since you can't remove people from BtB during a CC reform, you won't be able to add to ranks at that point. I tend to even run my 50rat blocks of skavenslaves as 5 wide by 10 deep.
And yeah, it doesn't really matter what you give the Plague Monks, they count as having 2 hand weapons either way. I tend to prefer the look of the knives myself, but it's purely an ornamental decision.

As above. 5 or 6 wide max, apart from your bell / furnace units when wider is fine (as you should be unbreakable, at least for a while!) to get more attacks in.

Why has no-one picked up on that?
The Skaven Army isnot going to be rereleased soon, iit came out in winter 2009, youre looking at maybe 4-5 years before the book gets redone!
You may be thinking of the second wave of skaven models that will be coming out inJanuary. You can, and should, pick up the army book asap
