Subject: "Thinking aloud": Chimera conversion ideas for Psykers

Hey guys,
I made a post a while ago asking about how a Chimera would be assigned to a PBS... Now I've decided that it will have been recommended by their handler from the Commissariat: So it'll be in Regimental colours with red stripes and perhaps some text on it along the lines of "Warning: Damned Inside"
At any rate, the model is sitting sealed at home and I'm just thinking about what to do with it... I have some conversion ideas but it will depend on a number of questions being resolved:
I'll just say first that I intend to make an open-topped platform on the rear for Psykers to stand on.
-Is there enough space for up to ten models to stand in a Chimera? I doubt it, but can I at least fit five? That's bases included.
-How can I expand the rear of the Chimera? I thought about using a Basilisk gunners' platform, but that has a gun base on it... and I don't know how I'd cover that up.
-How can I accomodate the multilaser turret?
-What can I use to add details to the interior? Ideally I want some kind of mesh-flooring... I could model the sides with plasticard but I've never used it before, any ideas on random Bitz to use?
I've only managed to find one open-topped conversion on the interwebs so far and it wasn't too illuminating.
But in the end I hope to have something not unlike a Salamander Command vehicle, *perhaps* with some kind of canopy on top, sort of like camo netting... But we'll wait and see
Any ideas? Any answers? Is it a cool concept?

I like the idea! You gotta take a chimera with those guys, so why not make a special one? Genius!
I should really do this.....
As far as suggestions go... You could use that back part of the basilisk kit that's hanging off the back and just chop off the gun base and then hollow out the chimera. It'd take some work, though. Hell, you could even use some bits from a wartrukk or something.
And you could surely fit five just on the top so you may just build it upward if you wanted, but that'd mess with line o' sight.
So... that's about all I've got. Good idea.

You could also consider using the Manticore as a base to make a Salamander. I was going to do that myself, though it's a bit more expensive of an option. The nice part is, you could magnetize it and always use it as a Manticore if you wanted.

I dig how in a setting where giant, muscled fungus men ride Mad Max cars and use their own teeth as currency, the concept of little engineering dudes with beards was considered a step too far down the aisle of silliness. ADB |

I'd never seen the Manticore model so it didn't cross my mind, I've started on an ordinary Chimera now :(
As for the Basilisk: I was perturbed in the end by the possibility of having to cover up the gun base, so I just bought an ordinary Chimera.
You can just about fit five minis on the back of a Chimera, I'm going to add some plasticard perhaps but at the moment I'm just experimenting with Imperial Guard heavy weapon sprues as well as valkyrie gunners in order to make a "turret": Aka, a multilaser mounted on the top-deck

Heres something that I did to a rhino of mine. I took some foamboard, and cut 8 posts about 3 mm thick. I glued the posts together in twos to form 4 corner pieces at 90 degree angles. Next i took some granny grating and cut it about waste height (for a marine not me) and glued it into the foamboard corners, with one end open. I took some more grating and some scrap foamboard (and some model grass) and made an overhang then glued it on top of the rhino. Mine comfortably hed 3 marines with bases so I'm sure you could extend it a bit to hold five.

Well for the flooring you wanted some kind of grill or ribbing. You could always get some window screening and glue it on top of the platicard. Next have you thought of having a platform the three of them can stand on look out over the battlefield. Honestly the amount of people that the 40k vehicles can hold should be looked at without their bases attached then 10 or 12 can fit inside. Also, you could make one of them to be able to stand in the turret hatch.

I don't know if you're a smoker.., but if you want mesh-flooring you can use the internal silver paper of a cigarette packet

Just going to throw out that this is a great idea! From my days in Epic (we called it "Space Marine" back then), I remember that the Orks use huge copper towers to ground their weirdboyz, so maybe you could have some sort of deployable ground-pole on the Chimera? I've actually been thinking of a Commissariat Chimera for my LC (purely a showpiece, of course, there's little reason to actually field an LC) along similar lines, painted black and positively encrusted with banners and posters, with three or four laud hailers. Like a cross between a Sisters of Battle tank and Yarrick's Shadowsword, but much more so.

I would suggest cages for the inside. They gotta keep those psykers locked up until they are ready to use!
I am thinking it would be pretty hard to get miniatures standing inside with a base. Maybe without but it would really depend for instance the cadian psykers probably wouldn't even come close to fitting inside as they are rather tall.
