I think the skew here has more to do with the age of people who hang out on the internet than age of players.

Oh, 47 next month. I'm old enough to remember when U2 was a Christian rock band!

50+ as well here. I was there right at the beginning or Warhammer and was one of those people who migrated over from D&D. Looking at most of the ages I certainly feel somewhat out of place.

28. Looks like I'm in a majority group.

I started beeing ineterested in 40k when I was 16, was a fan of fluff, books and DoW for a few years, experienced a growth of interest towards the tabletop as a student, then after a couple of years left the game competly due to the IRL issues. Now as it turns out I finally have some free time again (and also money), probably I'll return to the miniatures one more time.

Btw, maybe I'm just not old enough, but though I myself already have some health problems, for me it's quite funny how many people from 30 to 40 complain that they've become "old" recently. A man of 32 (who in the case had money, a beautiful wife, 2 kids and a good health) making a sad face and proclaiming some pompous speeches about how difficult it is to age?.. That's not serious.

Also it´s quite fun how some men after 30 are nowdays not eager to tell you their age exactly. Where I'm from, such behaviour was appropriate for women only (though even some clear-headed women don't approve it).

Disclaimer: much of the following paragraph may contain woeful inconsistencies due to the fog of time, but...

At some point at around age 10 (circa 1997) my dad did two things: he bought me a Lizardmen Saurus painting set and brought me to a Games-Workshop in Dublin. Again, I have no recollection of which happened first, but it seems like he probably picked up the painting set first as I distinctly remember our visit to the store. The guy asked me which of the two games looked more appealing. I chose 40k over Fantasy and the guy proceeded to show me the basics. I was enraptured. I'm not sure what I picked up that day; maybe it was the painting set (in spite of my 40k preference), but I probably also picked up a White Dwarf. I''m confident this was the case because I definitely remember White Dwarf being the reason I chose Dark Angels as my army. I don't remember the issue, and unfortunately I purged all of my old White Dwarfs at some point, but I distinctly recall that it was some pictures of a massive Dark Angels army built and painted by Mark Bedford. I believe he was giving it away as part of a fundraising event, possibly for one of his children who was ill at the time. Anyway, sometime soon after, my father also bought me the third edition boxed set. I promptly got to work putting the models together and that was the end of the hobby for me. Trying to glue those Kabalite warriors and the land speeder together, quickly broke my pre-adolescent heart, and I decided that the hobby simply wasn't for me.

And yet I still spent vast hours poring over the rulebook and its contents. I still continued to pick up the occasional White Dwarf here and there and I really never did stop fantasizing about the game, despite my early failings. At some point, I even picked up the fourth edition rulebook and the fifth and sixth edition starter kits, which I actually did put together and paint, but living in a city where I knew not a single soul who played or collected miniature figurines, I never actually had a game.

Fast forward to 2018 and I now live in a city with an excellent community. I've still only had 2 games of eighth edition, and a single game of Kill Team, but I have a 1,500 point army almost ready for the table top, and two units of scouts getting primed for Kill Team. I'm excited to finally start getting into the hobby that I've been dreaming about for the best part of 20 years.

Cheers.

You love the T-Rex. Its both a hero and a Villain in the first two movies. It is the "king" of dinosaurs. Its the best. You love your T-rex.
Then comes along the frakking Spinosaurus who kills the T-rex, and the movie says "LOVE THIS NOW! HE IS BETTER" But...in your heart, you love the T-rex, who shouldn't have lost to no stupid Spinosaurus. So you hate the movie. And refuse to love the Spinosaurus because it is a hamfisted attempt at taking what you loved, making it TREX +++ and trying to sell you it.

I'll be 36 this year and enjoying getting the kids into the hobby. My oldest lad is 7 and he enjoys GorkaMorka and a bit of tabletop RPG daddy-style (ie. Made up on the fly)

My younger lad likes to paint more. He's 5 and already very handy at flocking bases.
