Thank you Vik, I was hoping you'd pull something out of the hat at the last moment . Good luck with the paper my friend.

I count 5 finished entries now, (I Hope I've found them all).

I know it's been a bit of a bumpy ride but Thank you all to those who have taken part (even if you've not finished).

@GrimDork: Wax? I guess it has it's uses in certain hobbies

@anvildude: You should be able to move it by SD card with a reader? Some PC's have them built in, I had a camera that used the same size SD card as my phone did so I was able to move images across using that and a USB cable.

best of luck for the final day!

EDIT: Oops, getting names the wrong way around

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far, away...

I never did manage to find inspiration or time for this round... Maybe next time?

Having said that, there are some amazing entries (both finished and currently WIP). I don't envy you OMN- some hard judging ahead of you

'Wait, what about wax?

Yeah, I'd use that, except the camera's an old digital one, before they had SD cards. I'll see if I might have just missed it, though.

Well, it has a place for an SD card, but no card. Gonna have to keep searching...

Aha! Found the cable! WIP post incoming.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Well, I have some progress (finally) and some WIPpics.

Tomorrow afternoon will be some intense painting sessions, maybe a little bit of final modelling... But I got the base of the thing done. Now, keep in mind, this is the first bit of terrain I've ever actually done. Most of what I'm used to is doing the figures themselves, so this larger scale stuff is still a bit of a new thing for me, especially figuring out the materials to use- can't just take a chunk of PVC and start carving- I haven't been able to find big enough blocks of PVC for that yet!

Well, as I said, my idea was gonna be something Dwarven- I struggled, trying to figure out the scale and subject, whether I wanted to use some of my few minis on it, etc. etc. Finally decided on a sort of lava flow mishap, and was watching Dwarf Fortress videos...

But even before all that, I got an old keyboard, and decided that I could use the keys for a sort of 'dragons teeth' tank-trap ish monolithic stone thing.

pile o' keys

Here's everything glued down.

I'm using foam and cookie tins and some old brass rod things I found somewhere, all attached to a foamcore sheet for the base. This whole thing would have been about 20% cooler if I'd started a couple weeks ago andhad time to properly texture the entirety of the base, but with the deadline looming, I figure it's better to have something finished than to have something perfect.

But, I was able to do my first foray into plastering.

Getting Plastered!

And, after a judicious application of the stuff...

This is gonna get basecoated, and the whole thing will get washed and drybrushed and detailed. Hopefully it ends up looking very cool. Or at least sorta cool.

PM sent....nothing like leaving it right to the last second

Didn't get it to anywhere near where I wanted it, but it's at a state where I can say it's 'done'. Loads more that I'll be adding to it before I think it's complete though. I really need to learn this speed technique some peeps seem to have

You've probably got a few hours Grim, whilst he sleeps

Been a fun round, good effort chaps!

Thank you all for your fantastic entries.

The theme of this competition was "accidents"

I've had a quick glance over them, but I'll begin properly grinding gears, inspecting sheep entrails and consulting horoscopes to find a winner after I get this post up (as much for me to see all the entries on one page as for you all!).

This is a sample selection of the images, they link to their respected galleries. In no particular order:

If I got any images wrong pm me, say which image and if you would like it replaced, with a gallery link to the one that you'd like to replace it with.

It's been a varied competition with a lot of imaginative entries. Thank you again to all those who entered, you have not made it easy to pick a winner, wish me luck.

But, I learned some stuff, and hope that I can put up a better showing in the future.

Good job and congratulations everyone.

Good to see you all pushed yourselves and tried new things (I know I did). Improving the look of your own tables is the main aim of these competitions.

I shall have to consider my vote (had forgotten about that until Gawdam' mentioned it).

Good luck OMN, you have a hard job ahead of you.

Beautiful work one and all. So glad I do not have to be the judge... But if you think about it, completing an entry is a victory unto itself. Well, you set a goal-- build a piece for the contest-- and you achieved that goal. That's a win in my book

Be sure to vote! Voting is allowed for 5 days (should close Tuesday).

@GawdamSumbish: Thanks, I'd forgotten about that!

I didn't get an entry from Grimdork, I think he was the only one who didn't finish who didn't drop out.

Yeah, sorry. It's just started to get warm hereabouts and the heat saps my strength (landscaping bleh), so I wasn't able to finish the project even though all I had to do was dump some glue, flock, jungle plants, and a bit of rust on the tower.

Thank you everyone for your patience and lack of bribery offers.

Chris white:
Good choice of colours, use of materials and you've clearly put some though into it, however I'm not too sure on the whole accident thing going on here. Good use of the sprue and netting, I also approve of the posters! I would suggest you might want to thin your paints a little, though on cardboard even sealed with a spray it can warp the card.

tek thorin:
Very nice bunker. Again not sure how a bunker being destroyed counts as an accident but whatever. the grass is a little monotonous but well executed non-the less, there are some pre-made terrain pieces that you can buy in the UK that look a bit like it , nicely done non the less. The sides are nice and straight, it looks like any number of the German bunkers that I've seen in France.

GawdamSumbish:
You certainly did put that together quickly. I like the rusting on the metalwork, that looks really effective, I also like the crater. It's a simple, well made, well painted and effective. Well done!

Dr H:
Yea ... OK... this is awesome, I knew this was one to watch when you started putting together random pieces of junk to make a spaceship. I like the blue hue, hell there is a lot about this I like the plants, concrete and yes especially the graffiti. The time and effort you put in...

trollmeat:
Really colourful; idea and paint job. This is a great use of old toys, I admit I did enjoy seeing you recycle that old thing. really interesting piece this.

Anvildude:
Not a bad effort, you said it was your first terrain piece so don't worry, better than mine my a long shot . The whole volcano thing was a tough choice to go for but a really creative idea, well done, don't be too disappointed or disheartened with it, I reckon with a bit more time and the right materials you might be able to make something really special out of this. Hope to see you in the next round .

EyeamRai:
Great effort, sculpting is harder than it looks. That head is great, I'm not so sure on the bright colours and after seeing how big snotlings are those are pretty sizeable, great work on the heat though, faces are especially hard (I've tried... yea it was not pretty). Thank you for taking part, it has not been an easy competition and really, your terrain would look fantastic on any fantasy table top

Camkierhi:
OH THE ORKMANITY! or whatever...
The big guns are opening fire now. This is another idea I loved right from the outset, and yea, the same ridiculously high standard that we have all come to expect from you. I know you've been really pressed for time so much so that you had to shrink this back a bit, so on behalf of all of us thank you for working on this monster.

monkeytroll:
This was my favourite idea from the start and it is my favourite at the end. This was an insanely hard choice to make, it's a fantastic diorama from the start, the building proportions are spot on, at least to my eyes. I really love the oxidation on the metals on the roofs, the bits used on the robots, that car, there is so much I really like about this one.

So, time to answer the question... who are the winners?!

This was a bloody close one.

Third place:
monkeytroll
This was really close, between you and Cam.

Second place:
Camkierhi

[Drum roll]
First place:

Dr H.
Congratulations mate, well deserved for all of the reasons I and everyone else have mentioned ... repeatedly .

And Congratulations Dr H for winning the community favourite vote

My personal favourite is monkeytroll's, its just so different. And yea ... robots. I really would love to see an entire table done like this, it's something that I really wish I could do.

Thank you (again because I really mean it) to everyone who took part, and especially those who finished, by finishing you have given yourself the best prize of all, something that you can say you made yourself!

So there you go Dr. Your in charge of the next competition, you can lead this rabble from now on

Thank you.
OMN.
