That's so hard to manage or even realize - that's a flaw in the game itself, I guess?

I mean, sometimes you won't know someone else has done/is doing that - I mean, there's just no way to know, I don't think?

The fighting thing is so wonky. So many "Error" when I'm just trying to fight. It's an issue of not even being able to do the gym fight. And then a spot opens and you don't take it?

Yah sorry that's what I mean you do the work and they just cruise by dropping into what should be your slot. You'll be off the screen and probably needing to heal your dude before you can place him so there's a vulnerable lag of time.

If someone from another team is taking your gym you can almost always capture it from neutral before they can add their own guy but that's team v team and I'd consider it fair play albeit annoying. But stealing a hard earned spot from your own team is lame even if it's not prohibited in any way.

While I agree gym sniping is obnoxious that's why you should always have attackers and defenders. It just makes the transition period between beating the gym/prestiging it up and placing your own 'mon almost non existent. Although it's true if someone is waiting to snipe there is almost nothing you can do to stop it.

Outside of certain places in major metropolitan areas, I can't see it being that much of an issue.

How is it hard to believe that someone is going to end up at the same stop as you in a small town and just happen to be opportunistic? Or obluvuous. I only ever brought up the concept because I've seen it complained about two or three times on the local PoGo Facebook group.

I dint think it's a real problem either, just annoyance, that thing about people reporting players and getting them banned sounds way worse.

Are you fighting in busy areas? I get an error and then booted out of the gym if someone adds a Pokémon after I've started battling it. I can't access the gym for five minutes or more.

I dunno how busy they are, but it's not like there was a mob of people playing. Maybe a couple other players working the gym? But yeah, Error out, can't play. Repeat, repeat, repeat. Total time waste for nothing. At that point, I'm frustrated and pissed enough to shut it all down.

That's weird, I've never had an issue when battling even in downtown Manhattan which were the busiest gyms I've seen yet. I'd be super frustrated if I couldn't battle due to glitches and whatnot.

I suspect a good portion of my issues are due to me having created an account on Niantec's site vs linking a Google or Apple ID.

Hi everyone,

It’s been a busy summer and, in addition to battling bots and fixing bugs, we’ve also been busy working on some new features for our Pokémon GO Trainers. As you know, we recently released the new Pokémon Appraisal feature, which helps Trainers identify which Pokémon has the most potential for battle. Today we wanted to let you know about a new feature for the game that is just around the corner.

The next addition to Pokémon GO will be Buddy Pokémon. You will be able to pick your favorite Pokémon from your collection to become your buddy, opening up unique in-game rewards and experiences. Buddy Pokémon will appear alongside your Trainer avatar on your profile screen, adding helpful bonuses such as awarding Candy for walking together. You’ll also have the ability to change your Buddy Pokémon at any time.

We’ve got a lot more in the works this fall. Stay tuned here for all the details.

Certainly sounds like it'll be great for starters cause I refuse to evolve mine until I get the 125 to be able to get it all the way... I also started with squirtle yet theres just so many bulbasaur in the area instead.

Woot! my account has inexplicitly been reactivated. On a lark I checked this morning and it popped right up for the first time in several weeks.

Yeh they mentioned inexplicitedly banning accounts using third party programs which would have been unaware that those same third party programs were performing basically "DDoS" attacks on them by data skimming (or whatever other tech buzz words they wanted to throw at it), but then also inexplicitly unbanned those accounts as long as they knew they weren't intentionally doing that stuff!

An update on Pokémon GO account bans
We continue to work to ensure the integrity of the game and the health of our servers by blocking unauthorized access and at times by banning offending accounts. This includes blocking bots, data scraping operations, and banning end user accounts associated with those activities. Some players may not have realized that some add-on map apps do more than just show you nearby Pokémon. Each end-user app can be used as a collection tool by the app creator, invisibly collecting and forwarding data to the app creator with or without the knowledge of the end user. These apps can have an effect similar to DDoS attacks on our servers. Because of this we have had to ban some accounts associated with using these add-on map tools, leading to confusion by some users about why they were banned. This is a small subset of the accounts banned.

As a result of some changes made to our infrastructure, we are now able to unban this set of accounts. Add-on maps which scrape data from our servers still violate our Terms of Service and use of them may still result in an account ban going forward. Accounts whose sole purpose was to scrape data are not being unbanned. Accounts which used apps or websites to remotely capture Pokémon, battle or deploy on Gyms, or harvest resources from PokéStops are also not being unbanned. Our main priority is to provide a fair, fun, and legitimate experience for all players, so, aggressive banning will continue to occur for players who engage in these kinds of activities.

It's become quite boring these days...

That's because it's still a parallel play game. You still don't interact directly with any other human beings. You can't trade, and you can't duel.

There's only so much to do, and the last big change seemingly turned my local area into a Pokewasteland.

I drove around a bit today an noticed much less pokemen in the area. I went to walmart for lunch and have always been able to find a half dozen or more before and didn't see any this time.

I wish they would specify what apps were causing issue. I am not running any map apps or end user apps even remotely related to this game. So it would be helpful for them to let us know whats out there.

What you are seeing is the inevitable post-launch nerf, as they rebalance to make anything that was "easy" into something much less so. This is why it is always important to start playing at launch, rather than after all of the good stuff gets removed.

The thing is a post launch nerf like this tends to kill your game in the end as people lose interest as you continue to ignore issues or apply bandaid fixes to try to keep at least some of the people happy and not deal with things.

Buddy Pokémon and other updates in Pokémon GO version 0.37.0 for Android and 1.7.0 for iOS
Trainers,

Pokémon GO is in the process of being updated to version 0.37.0 for Android and 1.7.0 for iOS devices. Below are some release notes and comments from our development team.

Implemented Buddy Pokémon: Trainers will now be able to choose one of their Pokémon to be their buddy. A Trainer can earn Candy for their Buddy Pokémon by walking a certain distance.

Made it easier to select smaller Pokémon on the screen.

Fixed an issue where Eggs would sometimes hatch without displaying the animation.

Improved performance reliability when a device switches networks to no longer cause the application to hang or stop updating.

Pokémon GO Plus support

Minor text fixes.

We continue to focus on eliminating bots and scrapers from Pokémon GO. Rooted or jailbroken devices are not supported by Pokémon GO. Remember to download Pokémon GO from the official Google Play Store or iTunes App Store only.
