Subject: What modern films do you think will be regarded as classics in the future?

SHUT UP, CRIME!!!
It's a pretty good deconstruction of the genre, although I find Kick-Ass more enjoyable due to Hit Girl. Definitely better than the Wanted movie adaptation.
OTOH, Boltie is very cute!
The single most awkward sex scene in any movie ever.
These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Not the most recent of movies but still modern-ish, Tombstone and Unforgiven those are probably going to reign as two of the greatest westerns ever made.
Kung Fu Hustle is great and I love the old lady beating people with a flip flop with a nasty cigarette dangling from her lip. Growing up one of my Chinese friends would get that treatment from his grandma anytime he misbehaved, you knew he better run and hide if the flip flop came off. She'd chase him down in her bathrobe shrieking in Mandarin (which I didn't understand single word of) and I can still remember the exact sounds it'd make as he was getting slapped silly with that thing. On occasions I got the belt from my dad and grandpa so I knew that terror
of being called by my full name as I ran for cover, but the flip flop was always hilarious since it wasn't directed at me.
Gladiator is another film that's a classic, just a ton of great stuff in there and the opening battle is still insanely cool.
Blackhawk Down and 13 hours for modern war movies.
I don't remember what type of reviews it got but I really enjoyed Spy Game as it felt like a very gritty real world espionage thriller, the same goes for Ronin.
Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption and Green Mile, I've probably seen each of those 20-30 times and I'll still gladly sit through them again.
For Japanese films Twilight Samurai and 13 Assassins are probably the best two samurai films to come out post-Kurosawa.

I thought it was interesting don't know if I would call it good (I don't think it's bad) as tonally it was all over the place, one moment you're having fun and laughing, next moment you feel sick to your stomach.

@Greatbigtree
Basically you are saying that this movie isn't pushing a christian message because it's not what you believe the proper christian message is? Despite the hero not only considering the bible his holy book, but going as far as saying grace? I'm not sure how more explicitly christian you can do than saying grace. It's like saying a movie where the hero says the shahada isn't muslim...
Who care about the king james bible so much, in a religious way, and isn't Christian? How can you act like the king james bible is unrelated to christianity?
Eli has memorized the bible by heart and it's the basis of his faith but he isn't christian and is a theist instead somehow...
Yeah some people have done good things with good intentions. I'd say the majority of people that have done good things have done so with good intention. Many, I'd say most, of those people doing good things with good intentions were not being inspired by faith but by the inner understanding of morality.

I dunno. IIRC, a number of moms brought their daughters with them to watch Black Swan, because it was a ballet movie...
Not unlike fathers bringing their sons to watch Bull Durham, because it was a baseball movie.
I agree with "Kick Ass" that is surely a classic. First of it's kind really. Not to mention - the most awesome "batman" scene ever.

Shouldn't it be god-blessed Eli? I'll drop the matter. Thanks for the discussion, I've developed a greater appreciation for the movie. If you haven't yet, I recommend it as a film that can be interpreted in many ways.

Indeed!
If only we had a LA Batman/Robin scene like that...
Personally I was thinking this one. Really just love everything big daddy. Much cooler than Batman IMO.

Really good, even the happy ending more or less worked.
Liked it a lot more than Kick Ass. The comic stuck with the theme of real life superheroes suck, while the movie suddenly took a left turn with jet packs and gattling guns.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh and can we confine 'recent' to the last 10 years. That means 2008+ people.

Up is a movie that will always be highly regarded just for its opening ten minutes, regardless of the quality of the rest of the film. It reminds me of how everyone thinks of Moby Dick as the "Captain Ahab" book.
Wait, the first 30 mins? When does the blonde get fired? That bit was pretty funny. Also the wedding dress scene was almost as good as the waxing scene in the 40 year old Virgin, which always has me in tears.
being a old arse i have always liked the classic roman films, Spartacus Cleopatra ben hur etc so i think gladiator is as close as going to get to a classic in that genre, opening battle scene is amazing
entertainment wise, pulp fiction
