Cheers mate! They sure are, I was planning on sculpting a hood for him but I do just love how bad ass the model is as is.

gobert wrote:Nice triumvirate of hearthkyn, I like how they have a bit of northern dialect in their fluff too!

I know the feeling of temptation by the new terminators but still not started on the Indomitus Marines (I finished the Necrons at least!). The knights of fey sound intriguing, will they be a bit bretonnian themed (didn’t they have a Lady of the Fay?) or something else entirely? The Judiciary is a cracking start, can’t wait to see what the main scheme (schemes?) is like

Thanks Gobert! Some of my other marines are a while back in this plog, I don't think I've painted any for a year so it's nice to do some updates. I do plan on giving them some knightly bits where I can.

Not Online!!! wrote:I am never quite sure if that is meant to be a loyalist or not !

Definatly a good take on it. And the hearthkyn look superb as always

Always part of the fun with The Unforgiven! I always like the idea of my Imperials being barely any better than their enemies.

Updates ahoy!

Currently painting these Bladeguard for the monthly painting challenge.

Loving these bank holidays because it means I have free time to paint! Still a fair bit to go but I'm going to spend a lot of time with some detailing for these elites.

Cheers all!

The marine boys and Judiciar are looking great! Im loving the bank holidays too we should have more of it since that extra day helps so much cracking up the hobby projects.

Any more plans for the Votann?

Cheers Navarro! Oh yes! I certainly do have some good plans for Votann. I've ordered some bits and they are whizzing their way across the land to my desk.

Thanks Gobert!

I've been working on a lot this past week.

Finished my blade guard aka The Hexagrammatic Order of the Knights of Fey.

I had a grand time sat outside painting in the sunshine on Saturday.

Managed to paint one of the Outriders.

Not much left of the Indomitus marines and then it's back to Votann. It's a nice break to change up things.

Cheers for now.

Cheers Mcmattila, greatly appreciated. Yes absolutely! I wanted some kind of weird effect for these blades, beyond the usual styles that people use. These Bladeguard are some of the very last of the original chapter and deeply secretive as all good Dark Angels Successors should be! There I was scrolling on Instagram when that tutorial popped up. Perfect says I! took me a couple of attempts to get the sort of pastel colour right but I'm pretty chuffed with the end result.

gobert wrote:Yeah, that looks like a rainbow prism sword to me too! They look great as does the outrider. The different tones on the front of the bike are a cool touch

Thanks Gobert! Yeah I wanted the Outrider to look like he had Ridden Out far, so plenty of detritus and grime along the chassis.

An update! An update! My kingdom for an update!

I've not had a lot of time recently to do anything. So the bare minimum has been squeaked out of late.

Speaking of squeaking (boy that's fun to say)

Here's a little verminous creature that I built and painted when I had some time spare. Skaven were my second army after my High Elves and they have a special place in my heart. They are currently due to be used in my D&D campaign as some creatures of the Dark Beneath the World (aka the Underdark). I have led the party deep underground in search of a missing Dwarf prince and it just so happens that some humanoid vermin are stalking them in the gloom. Although they are not exactly Skaven, in my homebrew these creatures are called Malluci and are a small rodenty humanoid race. They aren't necessarily evil but these ones are puppeteered by a hideous abomination of fungal growth that seeks to envelop the world. Fun!

My only other update is for the Centennial painting challenge.

I'll talk more about that when I get the build finished!

Cheers for now.

Cheers Not Online!!! Greatly appreciate it!

Now for the update at last. First, a snifter of fluff to set the scene...

++ Bolts shattered chitin, screeching horrors were thrown to the ground by sturdy kin and shot at close range or cloven in twain by white-hot plasma axes. Yet the tide closed in inexorably. Around Thegn Knuraz, his Hearthkyn lay dying. Sharp claws dug into the flesh beneath their hardened armour. Hundreds of the monstrous creatures fell for each that died but they were surrounded. The mine entrance was closed tight behind them as they made their stand. With a roar he brought his fist down hard on a larger creature with scythe like talons that had pierced through the kyn who had stood shoulder to shoulder with him. They were dead and Knuraz had come to terms with meeting the ancestors. He fired the last few rounds in his magazine and holstered the pistol. His fist crackled with energy and again and again he brought it down on the six legged horrors that hissed and spat with a never ending determination to end his life. The chugging roar of bolter fire rang out clear and his eyes were momentarily blinded by a streak of energy that ripped a dozen of the beasts in half and left their smoking carcasses in blackened ruin. The clarion call of trumpets rang out. þunorslieht! The roar of engines grew louder of the giant armoured land train as it crushed multiple legged creatures as it ploughed through the horde. Emboldened, the fist crackled down again. ++

I'm away this weekend and the last weekend of June so not got a lot of time left to paint!

Thanks Gobert! It's been slightly delayed but it gives me more time to build. I was originally hoping for one set of large tracks but unfortunately the lower hatches get in the way. I've since grown to like the multi track look it's very "sci-fi". I plan to make some track guards soon.

Cheers mate! I'm glad people liked the Bladeguard, I spent a good bit of time on them.

Just adding a few shots from the painting challenge thread.

Praise be to þunorslieht! The hammer of the ancestors.

It's done for now but I plan to return in future to add a few things, mainly some decals and maybe some other things like the track guards. We'll see when I have spare time

Now for something a little different and a return to the Knights of Fey.

++The "Fyrnweorc" or dreadnoughts of The Knights of Fey were once things of unrivalled beauty. Scrollwork covered their mighty forms and intricate swirling patterns glowed on the armoured plating. In the harrowing defence of their homeworld in which 90% of their chapter was destroyed, nearly all of the Fyrnweorc were lost. As the chapter has begun it's steady recoup with Primaris reinforcements, new engines of war join the battlefield.

It was traditional on the planet of Yeaver for a warrior to be buried with their weapons and this ritual continued when the warriors became marines and were interred into their dreadnoughts.++

Little bit of background for my first model of Leviathan. I was debating either this or the terminators but I went with the awesome ballistus dreadnaught. It's an "old skool" mini so I wanted an old skool vibe with the back banner.

I always enjoy converting minis. I have some odd bits remaining and it's fun to see what I can use.

Cheers for now!

What is this 'spare time' of which you speak, stranger?

Seriously nice work on the mover- nice amount of detail without overwhelming the eye. Keeps right on, keepin' on with army color scheme as well. Jawa aesthetics meet Squat durability!

I like the Knights of Fey dread, too.

Squat Crawlers looks aces! I like the canopy on/off shots! love a nicely painted interior.

Looking forward to seeing what you do with Leviathan, there’s some sweet minis in there. The dread looks cool, but it’s a shame the classic dread was discontinued:’). Still this one is already looking cool. Is that an old bretonian shield on his chest? He seems to have captured a flag too, is he playing ZorpaZorp’s tabletop Dawn of War rule set?

the classic dread will live on in our hearts and minds! The shield is in fact from the Empire Knights kit. The sword behind it as well as the banner pieces are from the High Elf spearmen and archers.

Thanks! Yeah I find it tricky with these easy to build minis to make them look a little personal, but little conversions like that really help.

usernamesareannoying wrote:Love the tacked land fortress Olthannon.

Thanks! No I didn't say, it was from the same place I got the tracks for my Ad Mech kettenkrads. The company is called Zinge Industries.

So I was originally going to do these Terminators for the challenge but I have something else in mind for my D&D campaign. I've got an in person session coming up soon so this will have to take priority over Leviathan marines.

Just blasted through these when I had a bit of time spare this past week. Really like these updated Terminators, GW have been doing a great job with these new releases.

I'm glad I went for the red weapons when I was originally coming up with this colour scheme. It worked really well here and gives them quite a retro feel.

Cheers for now!

Cheers mates for the kind words, much appreciated.

End of the month is approaching with the terrifying speed of the sands of time slipping through our collective fingers (the horrors of age etc etc).

I'm rather pleased with the sheer vibrancy of this little spider gobbo because the basecoat was a very old pot of Snot Green that must be from at least 1997 and it still had some life in it.

I've been merrily pootling along painting these gobbos while watching the Ashes yesterday (or at least what was actually playable due to this manky weather).

I've now got three down and one to go. There's a few things I need to touch up that I noticed in the photos so hopefully get that sorted and maybe a little display board too? Who knows.

Automatically Appended Next Post:

A lovely day of progress here and I've got all the four models painted for the challenge. I'm dead chuffed with how they've turned out. Could do with a tiny bit of touching up in places but overall they're good to go. I've got some scenery to make for my in-person D&D session.

For background - this is the Coven of Moulders. A group of creatures which enact the will of Ir-Gothin, a god of the Underdark that was imprisoned until a mighty earthquake broke free it's magical prison. Now they seek to gather fresh victims for their growing army, to bring about a new order to the world.

Cheers.
