Subject: A good source of cheap plasticard in canada?

I love scratch building things, however I'm limited to cardstock as I cant find any local source of plasticard on the cheap. the cheapest I can find are 15 bucks packs that barely measure up to one sheet of newsprint (that's roughly 17 by 22 inches). The For Sale signs here are also made of metal or curogated card, which just irritates me. Any Canadians have some suggestions on where I can get cheap, effective plasticard locally? Also, I'm also looking for the bendable kind used for this: http://www.dakkadakka.com/core/gallery-viewimage.jsp?i=152351&m=2&w=800 As i wanna try my hand at making one too. Thanks!

is there any sort of model train, arfix or pretty much any modelling shop near you? I am sure you have tried this, but see if they stock it, they wont usually have much variation but its better than nothing.

Usually any train shops will carry Plastruct and/or Evergreen styrene in standard paper sized sheets. I don't know of any that carry bigger sheets without a special order. The big chain shop by me carries packs for @$8 US (the number of sheets in a pack varies by thickness, but I think it was 8 sheets of .010" down to 2 sheets of .080").
If you're looking for large quantities, I'd go mail order- you'll get much better prices and you can get big sheets if that's what you need. I've ordered from these guys and they're cheap and fast(and the styrene was very nice). Even after shipping, I paid far less than retail for Plastruct sheets. http://www.estreetplastics.com/Styrene_Sheets_s/23.htm. I'm not sure if they ship to Canada, but I would assume so.

My plasticard needs range from small vehicle conversions to titans and maybe a whole set of Space Marine Armor (painted in Angry Marines color ofc). However I wanna keep things as cheap as possible.

You should take a look at warning/info signs at hardware stores. If you just want plastic sheet it's a good cheap source.

I'll look into it in the morning. However most of the signs in canada seems to be either metal or corrogated card.

Marge tubs are washed and can be useful for cutting up for cheap card staock to help preserve the styrene card for when it is needed most.
It requires gluing with super glue or No Nails

I'm in Oakville Ontario. I can go downtown for materials if needed, as I have a free pass down there. I tried using recycled icecream tubs before, but the quality is pisspoor not to mention even superglue fails to permanently bond it together.
I'll Check Home Depot. There's also a Lowes in Mississauga I can go to.

So I used to go to a custom plastics store that after lots of searching for I found within a mile of my house. Then, one day, I was in the hardware store down the street buying some aluminum tubing and noticed that they had a small selection of 1' sheets. The hardware store's plasticard is twice as expensive, but it's from the hardware store down the street, not the special plastics place I went to before. Plus, it's still pretty cheap regardless of the price hike.
As such, I'd go to the biggest hardware store in town and ask for sheet styrene. You'll probably be pleasantly surprised.

Hornet Hobbies on O'Connor Drive in Toronto should be able to look after you. they do mail order as well. I didnt see a lot of actual sheet styrene in the store, but he should be able to help you out.

Down here in Hamilton there are a few decent places for plasticard(Although I don't know the cost). They would be Modellers Choice or Dundas Valley Hobby. I know they have a good selection of different patterns of plasticard. You could try giving them a call to see the cost, if you don't mind the 30 minute drive.

I just recently checked Home Hardware, the guy I asked didnt know what styrene sheets were and pointed me to the plexiglass section, which was really expensive and not flexible at all. I'll try the Modeller's Choice sometime next week.
