My brother is going to start necrons, and we are trying to figure out a paint scheme. I've looked at the gallery, but I didn't see anything nice and simple, but not the plain metal, so I was hoping someone could show me some of their models.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

I don't have any myself but if you do a comprehensive search for Necron images you'll se a decent variety. Some of them with a tarnished metal look are good but my favourite scheme so far was bolt gun metal but with bone coloured armour plating.

Chaos black base coat with bolt gun metal in the deep parts and the bone looking parts skull white. Gives you a nice undead look.

I like the ceramic looks myself, too many silver/copper necrons out in the wild. Base Color/Wash/Highlight, just as easy. Changing the rod colors looks nice too.

Does anyone have pictures? I need some visuals.

I'd prefer mine a little more roughed up but here's one with an alternative scheme:

a simple metallic color seems like the easiest scheme to go with. I know thats not what your brother is looking for, but it just makes sense to paint them this color

4250 points of Blood Angels goodness, sweet and silky W12-L6-D4
1000 points of Teil-Shan (my own scheme) Eldar Craftworld in progress
800 points of unassembled Urban themed Imperial Guard
650 points of my do-it-yourself Tempest Guard
675 points of Commoraghs finest!

The Dude - "Jackie Treehorn treats objects like women, man."

Lord Helmet - "I bet she gives great helmet."

if i were to buy and paint necons this is how i'd do it.. simple.. 3 blues, reaper paint names, Sapphire blue as the base getting over the entire model, after it dries i'd wash the joints with asurmen blue wash, then i'd paint the armor plates True blue, One more wash for the joints of asurmen blue, the hilight the armor plates with sky blue , paint the gun with shadowed steel, then hilight with honed steel put in your desired color of tube also paint that gun cord the same color as your tube And Voila . heres my guy

The pic is in my gallery so you can click on it and then zoom in

For the bases I used floor tile molds from Hirst Arts, and I casted them in resin. I got the 1" tiles and also 1.5" tiles that I'll use for the bigger bases like for destroyers and stuff. That's all i have painted so far, not really rushing since I want to wait till they get a new codex and models some day...

edit: also here's a link to a post I made about how I did the rust and stuff, more pics there

Here are mine. The paint scheme was chosen for ease and speed, so they dont really look as good as some others.

All I have so far is a squad of warriors and a lord. May add another squad over the next few months. Dont want to get too deep into it until the new codex and models come out.

Whats my game?
Warmachine (Cygnar)

I'm thinking about starting some black and red necrons myself. That Nightbringer looks epic BTW.

Sorry for the bad pics, I really need to redo those. But my Necrons come from the deserts of Mars. I really like the color scheme, but its not very fast. Each guy has about 5 layers of color.

That's pretty cool looking. I like the idea of desert crons lol. And the monolith lights up! You see that all the time but it never gets old lol.

I'm not sure if by "plain metal" you mean the bogo silver or any metals, so here's mine as they brass rather than silver. I've also painted the rods which most people don't as I don't like translucent rods of any colour
The brass is done with just three colours so it took me hardly any time to do a full army.

In a world gone mad, who is left to fight for truth, justice and all that gets you smashed for under a fiver....

First played 40k during 2nd edition, missed out 3rd and 4th, and haven't played 40k since 5th edition - but still read and occasionally paint

Hmm. Seems like there are just as many brass/decayed crons on this sight as normal ones.
