Hi All,
Searched the forum but didnt find an answer to this one.
Can a jumppack equipped vanguard veteren squad, arriving via deep strike and utilizing heroic intervention, use a droppod's locator beacon (or a scout bikers beacon) and not scatter? And still assault when they arrive?
Ex: a pod with a locator beacon is on the board. I declare my vanguard squad is using heroic intervention, and then I drop them to within 6" of the pod (and hopefully within 6" of the enemy). They proceed to assault the enemy unit in the assault phase (since they cannot run or shot using HI).
According to RAW, this would be acceptable. What say you, dakkaites?
Cheers

Yes this is fine.
Just remember the locator beacon has to be on the table the turn beforehand. Very good with Drop pod assault

absolutely legal; and sound tactics. Just remember that the Drop pod has to be on table any turn before the Vanguard become available(and still "functional"); and thet Scout bikers could not move closer to the enemy before the Vanguard drop in(that turn). Needless to say with the above restrictions your opponent would be foolish to have any units within ~12" of either unit after his movement phase. Edit: PS; nice to see we think alike Nos.

Thanks guys. I am building a list that is based around CC primarily and having this unit drop in and cause havoc could be quite good.

Just remember: it will be a miracle(or slow-witted opponent) if it works more than once against the same opponent.

I don't know about that... a 12" bubble, especially if you run a few pods/bikes, can quickly cover a large portion of the board.

AS above - to make this most effective you need to have about 3 pods come down turn 1 (to g'tee you will, even with a bad scatter, get to where you need to)
The opponent also has to fail to destroy the AV12, immobile, open topped pods

Yes, I have 3 pods coming down turn 1 (my dreads) which form a wall they hide behind until they can shoot/assault. I have had good luck in the past using this. 2 more pods have standard troops for objectives and such. So when reserves come in, I have a fairly decent bubble in which to jump into.
A lot of times, people just see my army list and are like "ok you have jump pack marines". They dont bother to see that my pods have locator beacons, nor any other wargear; mostly they just want to know units. This, like all mistakes your opponent makes, is just something else to capitalize on.
Thanks

Thanks
Personally I exchange lists with my opponent, Full disclosure is the best IMO.
As for pods with locator beacons, I usually run 5 camo cloak scouts that infiltrate and have a locator beacon, that way my 3 drop pods land pretty much where I want them too on the drop pod assault, I usually give 2 or 3 of the pods locator beacons so its not easy to take out 3 or 4 locator beacons and I usually get to land my Vanguard Veterans where they need to go.
