Hi guys, after weeks of on and off painting sessions, here's the first of my cold one knights for my new Dark Elves army, my first for 8th edition. I've been playing around with paint schemes a bit, and would love to know what you think, and here any suggestions to improve the paint job. Apologies if the photos aren't amazing, they're my first attempt at using a light booth thingy so any tips on that would be great too! Hopefully be posting more pics in this thread as I get on with painting!

+++++EDIT+++++

Here's some much clearer photos that I hope you like!
Cheers

Really clean painting mate, and beautiful base, very realistic! Love how you went with a thick snow, that doesn't look like flock that you see on many models! Good job overall Although i would pick the cloth out as another colour as it is currently washed out with the armour.

Thank you very much for the comments, I've just bought fortress grey actually to give the cloth another highlight as I thought the same!

The snow on the base is GW snow flock. I mixed it up with pva until it was like lumpy mashed potato, then blobbed it onto the base, and that's how it came out, one of my favourite products now!

The photo is a little blurry. I think you need more light. However you can still tell this model is painted very well. Nice.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

Looks good as far as the paint scheme goes, but you should try to photograph against a more neutral colored backdrop, like black or white or grey. It's hard to really focus with the bright blue.

Love the cold one- he looks fantastic! (and the elf is nice too...)

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

Definitely agree with choosing another color for the cloth. I'm a big fan of blue armor, but when the entire elf is blue it removes the details. Cold One Knights are fantastic models with great detail so you definitely want to bring that out.

I also agree with getting a different backdrop for your photos. The Cold One stands out against the blue very nicely, but if blue armor + blue cloth bits cover up details, what do you think that giant blue background does for your model?

That base looks great! Love the larger rocks and your snow use is perfect, not too much and not too little.

Thank you all for the comments and tips. I'm going to change the cloth to a light grey, I'm thinking shadow grey highlighted up to fortress grey. Hopefully this should provide more of a contrast to the blue.

It was my first time using the light booth thing, so I'll try to replace the background with something a little less garish later! I also don't have the best camera in the world, but am convinced I can get better results from it, should I try different/more lighting? I've never taken a photo of any of my models that I've been truly happy with...

Overall, quite nicely done. Personally, I would have used the lighter blue for the armor, then the darker blue for the cloth, but that's just me.

So long as it makes you happy, it's a good model. Always remember that.

I love the cold one, it's a really clean paint job. Not such a fan of the rider, but can't put my finger on why.

Very well painted. The cold one looks better painted compared to the dark elf. By the way, the tail looks like it could do with another wash. It seems flat compared to the rest of the body.
