Hi there!

Army is finally complete after a bit of a hiatus, very happy with how its all come together

Thoughts?

I have been absent from the hobby for a long time, definitely out of practice with the brush, but with the release of the new Dark Eldar (Used to be a Craftworld Eldar guy, only because the old Dark Eldar models were pants) I got sucked back in. With the start of a new army, I thought why not stop lurking on Dakka and actually post!

Being a collector first and a gamer second I'm not entirely going for an optimised force. But it was hard to go past the new warriors! I might sit down and craft up an army list a bit later There will definitely be more warriors, and some Scourges as well (as soon as I can get ahold of some more Dark Lances and gargoyle wings). Not that big a fan of the new Raiders, so it might be a footslogging force. Undecided at this point! Will try my hand at making a custom Archon as well.

I've gone for a red scheme, with a splash of blue, I think its appropriately evil looking. Its interesting how some things come back to you, but I'm certainly rusty! C&C is welcome!

Some more building, hopefully this will get some interest

Archon with agoniser and blaster. I love the 'weighted flail' bit

Sucubus with agoniser and blaster, most of my agonisers will be sword types, but again can't go past the flail for my characters

Bloodbride Syren

Going to build the Bloodbrides next, and when the sun comes back get some primer down and get cracking on painting

I like them. Just started a Dark Eldar army myself. The colour scheme is rather fetching.

I would suggest hosting the pics on this website, makes it easier to view the pictures (I, for example, have trouble accessing photobucket).

Am following this

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

You've got some really nice poses on your Sybarite and Archon! The weighted flail looks great!

Ooo, didn't know I could host on Dakka, will look into that now!

Thanks guys!

<edit> Is that better?

Much better. Mind you, do you have access to image editing software, cropping the pictures to only those pieces you need will make the figures look bigger on Dakka and save viewers from having to click through to your gallery to get any idea of detail. Brightening them while you're there is a good idea too. A good rule of thumb is to make sure your background is actually white (or blue, or whatever it's supposed to be )

Also, if your camera has a higher exposure setting, you might want to bump it up a couple of pegs. That way you might not need to edit the brightness. And, obviously, make sure you're using Macro/Micro.

As for the models, I like them, though the blue looks a little bit chalky (needs a wash to tone down the highlighting) and the face definitely needs more defined shadows. The colour scheme itself looks really nice Good job.

I almost named my Dark Eldar the Kabal of the Blooded Hand. Thought it would make for good iconography

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

A bit of image wizardry and voila! That's really not bad actually. Love the eye detail. Loincloth is a tad dusty still. Very nice blue gem.

Thanks LadyCassandra, thats awesome of you to do! Will do a bit of playing around with my Photo-fu...what software did you use to edit the picture?

I think I need to get a hold of a brown wash for the loincloths (going for a skin texture as opposed to cloth) and some nice white paper to build a proper photobox I might continue to relearn techniques on the warriors before moving onto the characters hahah

Great minds and such infilTRAITOR

Thanks sum1thtdiesalot, I enjoy painting red, and I can't say I've seen any new ones in red either

I used Paintshop Pro to up the brightness, but mostly because my Microsoft Photo Editor was giving me problems . And Paint to crop it. Alas, Paint still doesn't have brightness/contrast functions. My partner, who has Photoshop, keeps mocking me about Paintshop Pro so don't be surprised if you've never heard of it . GIMP would work too I guess?

To stop portrait images from becoming HUGE by the way, change the size to small before you copy the forum link as it only goes on the width.

I think I will have a play a bit later, thanks LadyCassandra!

AgeOfEgos: Thanks mate! The red is black undercoat, followed by watered down scab red. Its not a thick covering so the undercoat comes through a little. Followed by red gore in a wide band along the edges of the armour plates (starts actually looking red at this point), with a highlight of blood red along the extreme edges. Then ran black ink down the 'gaps' in the armour. No washes or anything like that.

It looks nice in the flesh, LC's photoshop is pretty much bang on what they actually look like. Hopefully I'll take some better pictures soon

Thanks! I'm learning more about the camera as well as I go!

WIP of my Succubus...still not happy with the face But I love the pose...still a lot of work left though! I might leave the archon until I finish my Warriors and Bloodbrides, so I can make him as good as I can manage

Did you use howling banshee legs for the succubus? They look good but I can't figure out what they are

Yep, Howling Banshee legs, but not the current ones. Was donated by a 3rd ed Banshee

Scourge, made from Wych legs, Warrior torso and head, Gargoyle wings, Daemonette Seeker feet. Saw it done by someone over in Warseer, thought it looked really cool. Very alien and obviously 'enchanced' compared to the regular Kabalites. Going to form a small sniper squad of Dark Lances, mainly because I love the 'sniper rifle' appearance, but also because Heat Lances are hard to get ahold of.

Thanks! Very happy with the red, halfway through batching some bloodbrides when the bits arrived for the Scourges, lol, distractions. Better shot of all 5 Scourges, ready for priming!

Very nice Scourges. They have really dynamic poses. They all have really long legs, which looks fitting somehow. The only one it doesn't quite look right on is the one pinned off the ground.

They're gonna look excellent though! How are you planning on painting the wings?

Those are really really cool. Cant wait to see them with arms. I agree with Foxtale that the long legs are fitting, especially since they look like birdmen in the codex. But I also agree with Foxtale that the one that is pinned off the ground looks a bit off. I just don't know why...

I have to agree with foxtale and sum1, the pinned one does look out of place

I think it's just that the legs look really long when they're extended straight out. Chopping them closer to the kabalite knee or the seeker foot might fix it.

Wings are going to be skin/bone coloured I think, or blue to tie in with everyone else.

The one off the ground is going to be one of the Dark Lance guys, I'll take another shot and a different angle, but basically with gun she looks like she has just lifted off backwards after firing the weapon. The far left one is the other Dark Lance user, being pushed back by the 'recoil'

Interestingly enough, the one that you have commented on is the only one that uses warrior legs instead of wych ones, I guess the wych ones lend themselves to this more, but I ran out!

Once the arms are on the poses are going to look much better. They look suitably majestic compared to the regular guys, as befits their wealth and status

There was a break in the weather so they are primed now...I will paint them one at a time I think, so expect to see a Dark Lance first

Edit: Whoops, more replies: I deliberately wanted to make the legs long and 'avian' looking with a touch of 'not quite right' rather than just winged warriors. I was just thinking it might be the wings that are throwing the pose a little. If they were angled down a bit it might enhance the idea that the Scourge is lifting off/coming into land as opposed to 'moving' like the others. Might have a play.
