This thread is intended to gather together completed pictures from my INQ28 project. Hopefully you'll enjoy them!

Inquisitor Theodor Adorno, Ordo Malleus
Adorno is a relatively young and foolhardy member of the Ordo Malleus whose philosophical leanings place him firmly within the camp of the Xanthites. As an acolyte, Adorno was the pupil of Inquisitor Valdoon, one of the Dalthus Sector's greatest ever daemonhunters. During his service alongside Valdoon, Adorno learnt to destroy the daemonic. However, the desire burnt within him to control it, to use it against itself. He began to illicitly gather whatever forbidden knowledge he could on the dark arts of sorcery and daemonology. Some writings were captured from cults; others were purchased at extortionate prices from unscrupulous dealers in dark artefacts. Experimentation improved his skill as an aspiring sorcerer, yet the assembled texts were fragmented and contradictory, and necessitated many years of study and research.

During his reading, Adorno discovered many references to a daemon known as 'the Seraph'. A mercurial creature known by many names to many cultures - chief among these epithets was the title of "Whisperprince". The creature was said to answer all questions put to it.
Adorno hungered to know these dark secrets that should not be known by Man. He devoted his efforts toward summoning the Whisperprince so that the daemon's knowledge could provide him with the answers needed to defeat the Chaos powers.

It was not until Adorno became an Inquisitor and left his former master that he felt confident to summon the Whisperprince. Having discovered a fragment of the Whisperprince's true name, Adorno readied himself to summon the creature in order to interrogate it. Using the descriptions in his forbidden texts, he laid out a ritual circle of sanctified salt, daubed with sigils and wards drawn in blood.

The Inquisitor's inexperience and arrogancewere plainly exposed when he finally summoned the Whisperprince. Enraged at having been pulled from the warp, the daemon tore through the improperly-applied wards and entered Adorno's body, possessing him.

After the daemon was cast out, Adorno spent several months gathering his strength and steeling his mind against the maddening whispers that haunted his mind. Rather than swaying him from his chosen path, the accidental possession merely convinced Adorno that his grasp of Chaotic lore was simply not complete enough. Obsessed, Adorno resolved to learn from the mistakes that had almost cost him his life. He would redouble his efforts, researching carefully to ensure he could avoid the pitfalls that so often destroyed lesser practitioners of the malefic arts. Five years to the day since Adorno was possessed, he bound the Whisperprince to the mortal plane. His obsessions had made him many enemies and jeopardised his sanity. Thus Adorno created the daemonhost, which he christened "Seraphael".

Having bound the Whisperprince to his service, Adorno has interrogated the creature, divining secrets that have increased his ability as a sorcerer manyfold. He has the barest understanding of the immaterial kingdoms of the warp, and yet even these glimpses have taken their toll upon his sanity.

Ophelia Dannica
The work of Inquisitor Adorno to bend the powers of the warp to the whims of Man is dangerous indeed, and requires agents of unfailing will and vision. Foremost among those who aid his cause is Ophelia Dannica.

Dannica was once a truly dedicated Battle-Sister of the Adepta Sororitas; proficient on the field of battle yet diligent at her prayers and devotional rites. There were those who foresaw great things for her; and yet that future was not to pass. Ophelia was part of a simple deployment to quell a mutant uprising; a deployment that quickly escalated into the unimaginable nightmare of a daemonic incursion. As madness reigned, the Sisters turned upon one another, constantly trying to rid their minds of the half-heard whispers at the edge of consciousness.

Only three of the Sisters survived. One died of her grievous injuries, the second was shot dead after she ran through the halls of the convent with a chainsword. The third was Ophelia Dannica. She returned battered and bowed, irrevocably altered by her experiences. Her sisters struggled to accept her back into their ranks, considering her cursed and ill-fated. Even Ophelia herself found it difficult to reconcile her experiences. She was plagued by dark dreams and nightmarish visions - many of which began to come true.

Ophelia was foolish enough to confess her dreams to her Sisters, begging for relief. To her dismay, the Canoness branded her a witch and accused her of consorting with dark powers. She had been in command of the mission, and her weakness had been the death of her Sisters - noble warriors who had relied upon her wisdom and experience. She was taken into custody and subjected to days of questioning and torment in the dungeons of the Convent. Those she considered her closest friends visited her and pleaded for her to confess to her sins. Her entire world was reduced to a blur of pain and her sanity was stretched to the very limit. Faith - the defining attribute of any Sororitas - was torn away from her and she begged for a swift death.

It was at that point that Inquisitor Adorno arrived at the Convent. He took her from the dungeons and inducted her into his service for reasons known only to him. She was granted the chance to serve the Emperor once more, but was forever denied the right to ever call herself "Sororitas" again. Over many months, Adorno slowly moulded and shaped her that she might adopt the Xanthite way. Adorno showed her that her dreams were not a curse, but a blessing; that she was destined for great things. Her terrible experiences had, he said, simply armed her against the worst.

The relationship between Ophelia and Adorno is a complicated one. She is a capable student and a formidable acolyte, having absorbed much of her Master's Xanthite philosophies and fighting with formidable gusto to further his aims. Ophelia has become Adorno's most trusted acolyte. She rarely speaks of her experiences, or the twists of fate that have led her here, but the memories have never left her. Yet such is the fervour with which she fights that one must wonder if the two are more... intimate.

Doubtlessly on some level the former Sororitas must know that Adorno is damned, and yet she knowingly stands with him. Perhaps she has fallen prey to the fallacy that the ends justify the means; perhaps she harbours some delusion that she can redeem the life of the man who saved her from death.

"Mourn", Feral Warrior
The warrior known as Mourn was born unto a feral world upon which religious deviancy was rife. The efforts of Imperial Missionaries to impose order upon these deviant tribal superstitions had only ever achieved limited success. Many would attend the required Ecclesiarchal services and yet still pay their dues to wytch-doctors and holy men. The young warrior grew up dedicating his kills to an Emperor figure who was but part of a pantheon, assailed on all sides by wicked and mischievous fellows. In this ignorance and simplicity lies an open-mindedness and acceptance Adorno has found useful - perhaps even welcome. Mourn knows all too well that the universe is a cold and savage place, home to all manner of malevolent creatures that must be crushed by any means necessary.

Though initially unnerved by his transition to civilisation, he has come to thrive, Imperial technology simply providing him with better and better ways to kill. He earned passage by working as a bodyguard for various unscrupulous mercenary traders and smugglers. His reputation as a mercenary soon spread and soon his talents were much in demand. Mourn’s reputation soon reached the ears of an individual who had need of his skills, and in a dim and smoky cantina on the frontier colony of Cordova, Inquisitor Adorno engaged in his services.

Mourn is fierce and callous, accustomed to death and fully prepared to carry out the Inquisitor's orders - no matter how distasteful or questionable they may seem.

Seraphael, "The Whisperprince"
The daemon Seraphael has been known by many names throughout the millennia; Inquisitorial records of the Ordo Malleus have linked together fragmentary accounts from dozens of worlds. These stories tell of the Whisperprince, a duplicitous and manipulative creature of the Immaterium. It appears as the hooded advisor pushing kings to war or offering snatches of forbidden wisdom to philosophers and holy men. It has been worshipped as a God, and many monstrous sacrifices have been lain at its feet.

The Whisperprince is by no means a willing servant. It bears no love or kindness towards its captors. The fleshy prison in which it has been trapped is a terrible sight to behold. The laws of reality seem to warp around it, as though attempting to repel the creature from this plane of existence. The air is ice-cold, and surfaces around it are almost instantly covered with a sheen of unnatural frost. Its skin is pale, and the very blood is frozen in its veins. Its yellow eyes glow with malign intelligence, vestigial horns pushing beneath the skin of its ritually-shaven head. The body is draped with chains and amulets to keep the formidable power of the daemon within. The arcane sigils etched into the borrowed flesh of the daemon’s host form an integral part of the process of summoning and binding the creature to the material plane.

The bindings placed upon the Whisperprincenare potent indeed, forcing Seraphael to follow Adorno’s instructions. The Inquisitor has taken advantage of this arrangement; since first binding it to the host, he has learnt much about the Immaterium, wheedling truths from its whispered lies. The Inquisitor and the Daemon have been locked in a constant struggle between master and servant – and it has never been entirely clear which is which...

Ahh, Molotov, I've always been a fan of your modeling and background writing. I'm glad to see these finished pieces in the showcase, as they are quite close to flawless in detail. I particularly like Ophelia, seeing a Battle Sister in anything but power armor is not something I've seen before, but you did an impressive job in creating her.
