Can anyone suggest any games/modules that work with 1 player?

Warhammer quest can be played solo, D&D 4e can be played without a GM using a random dungeon generator and encounter list.

probably not. Pathfinder is the last ditch for real roleplaying games... no wonder 4E is so terrible, they can't even get other payer to play together...

Why would you play a roleplaying game by your self though? Just curious.

4E runs quite well preferable to 3.x/PF in my view. There were actually solo rules for 2nd edition and 3rd floating somewhere. 2nd was official 3rd not so much - but still doable using monster charts. Just remember to scale encounters down.

I don't have many friends where I live... I was transplanted due to work. I don't even have an FLGS to play at over here... at least not one that has adequate space to play in. I'm part of a forum for miniatures players out here but they don't play many rpgs.

Look up Tunnels & Trolls. It's an old-school game (first published in the 70s); a bit simpler than D&D.

There are literally dozens of solo modules out there for it.

The old Advanced Heroquest has solo rules, as does Space Hulk. Playing solo removes/simplifies some of the enemy strategy, but can still be fun if you don't have any other options.

I think that lone wolf does some LOTR books

There are a LOT of solo-play gamebooks out there, if you like those. Most are out of print, of course, but many can be tracked down through Amazon or used bookstores.

Yeah I think that finding some old gamebook would be the best...
They're designed for providing a solo rpg experience and some series provide very entertaing adventures... Lone wolf is the most famous series but there are others... I was a fan of this stuff and i have a huge collection... Unfortunately I can't sell them to you (they're written in italian) but maybe you can find something at flea markets or in some old store... Computer games destroyed the gamebooks!!! damn technology...

There was talk of a Lone Wolf video game in 2009 but it has been cancelled. Mongoose is republishing the solo books and expanding the line to multiplayer gaming.

It's the first game I've seen where a module designer literally tells you: "I'm trying to kill your character, and I think I have a good chance of getting them right from the start."

Just started playng through the 2007 Lone Wolf. My oh my, it's fun. Will post a full review when possible.

I loved the old Lone Wolf book/games... and how they could follow on but didn't have to.. they were great. They were supposed to be reprinted but it got cancelled... any word on that Manchu?

As I said, I just recieved the first book (of the Mongoose reprints) last evening. It's great. I will post a full review this weekend (all else being equal).
