All the basing details arent complate yet. I wont do the whole army with mushroom bases but wanted a few inter-mingled. Id like to hear your thoughts on them.

no seriously why did you came up with that idea? looks hilarious but your orcs are rather serious looking...so waht will you do to match both bases and orcs up ? thats no critizism here you just made me curious...

vik

and by the way, how did you do the actual mushrooms?

I didnt make them but had them made. Youre right about them not blending well with the serious looking orks - I was afraid of that... uggg.

They look delicious, but I think they might be a bit bright for the orks around them. :(

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

if you feared that i wouzld suggest to make it blend by adding some jokish details on the orcs rather than get rid of thr `chrooms...
could get funny and as i recall orcs are more funny than serious anyway...

If the bases aren't finished, what are the pictures of them doing in Painting & Modeling Showcase?

It'd work better if the bases were more forest/jungly. Don't often get mushrooms in deserts.

That is a great point. If it won't screw up your army's composition perhaps darkening the soil of your bases and adding more woodland growth might help sell the mushroom idea.

Maybe the mushrooms are actually new Orks and the desert's the site of an earlier battle?

Love the mushrooms! Don't quite work with the orks I'm afraid... but love the mushrooms! You might try playing with different cap colors... that might help.

The idea is fun but am finding the red too much.
A little red goes a long way when surrounded by green, greys and sand. It is too distracting imho and maybe needs toning down or a more neutral colour used/bigger white spots?

My other concern is that a bunch of Waaaghing orks would soon trample the fungi to bitz

I alway pictured ork shrooms being green and surrounded by mold and spores. I think you need some other plants, or lichen to blend them in.

I can add a layer of Devlan Mud to tone them down again.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
What kind of colors do you think would work well with these orks? And yes - they are spores from a previous battle growing into full-sized orks.

I love the red, but then I've always been a fan of the more ridiculous aspects of the Orks.

I've got some painted up in a more muted, natural colour scheme. I'll try to get pics up this weekend so you can check it out.

Great looking Orks. Great looking mushrooms.

I personally like the look. But if you're going for something a little more serious, why not just do the mushrooms brown instead of red?

I really like them! But honestly there is just a few too many for my taste.. I would have perhaps just put them on two or three ork bases, and then created a terrain donut/inner with a mushroom field as part of your possible play board.

Im keeping them - these models represent about 10% of the army so it wont be so concentrated on the field.

I remeber years ago seeing some fluf I think form the ork version of necromunda... gorkamoka that was it! anywho it had this life cycle of an ork and if i remebr correctly it had a section showing how orks spread through spores and grew underground in the shade like fungi. so anyway i like you could say they are in an ork day care facility...

The mushrooms are orks in gustation I added a layer of Devlan Mud to the bright red - they're a bit more earthy now. I have about 3 or 4 in each mob of 30 now with mushrooms. The bigger Orks pretty much all have them.

I also made OBJ markers with lots of mushrooms on them.

I have a jungle terrain table and Ill be adding mushrooms to the table terrain as well.

So, as I said, I painted up a batch of these guys in a more natural scheme. For comparison's sake:

And some close-ups for detail:
