So I joined Dakka to get feedback on the gitz once I started painting them and now that I've got a couple done (well, near enough...still touch ups here and there and clear coat left to do) I might as well see what everyone thinks.

Thoughts and comments appreciated. Eventually this list will include ~69 more boyz, 15 burnas, a looted wagon (that's been converted from an Eldar vehicle...pictures coming once it has some paint other than black primer), battlewagon, and deff dred, plus some coptas and stormboyz. So far, Orks are a lot of fun to paint. Aside from mixing colors that don't normally get used together, they've got a little of everything; clean (well, clean-ish) metal plates, cloth, muscle, etc.

Anywho, I'll update once I've got more painted. Thanks for viewing.

To think that if I had never got into Warhammer, I'd probably have enough money for a down payment on a house...

Not at all bad. Nice conversions and shading. I particularly like that colour effect you have on the boss pole. They will look pretty hot when the bases are done.

All of the interesting rust effects were done by mixing vallejo matte varnish and water, coating the area to be rustified, then applying vallejo pigments (dark red ocre and dark yellow ocre for iron, chrome oxide green for copper) until it made a thick-ish paste, and when necessary it was textured with a stiff brush (old tooth brush / lab grade acid brush). After all that, I gave 'em a wash with the appropriate citadel wash, watered down about 50% (delvan mud for the iron, thrakka green for the copper). It's been pretty interesting stuff to play with. A few of the tutorials I've found say that the Mig pigments are nicer, so maybe I'll have to try those out in a pepsi challenge type thing...

On a boat, Trying not to die.

Great work there. I enjoy a nice variation from the standard snot green orks.

Anyway, I wish you luck. Orks are the hardest army to paint, and I can see that you are doing just fine.

What are you thinking of naming the Waaagh!?

I hadn't really considered a name for the waaagh yet. I'll have to think on that one. In the mean time, the assembly line of boyz has started and I've gotten a little work done on assembling the deff dred. Think I'll pose him so he's about to stomp on something rather than two feet firmly on the ground...

I've always been a fan of greens that are more on the blue end of the spectrum than the yellow, particularly because it seems most people don't use them on Orks. Haven't decided if I want to go all out and do resin bases for any/all of the infantry. It would be awesomely awesome to have them all looking like they walk on rusty sheet metal in a scrap yard, but that can get to be quite expensive (to the tune of $2.50-5 a model, x86). Do you guys think it would look too out of place to just do it for the Boss, nobz, and maybe the 15 burna boyz, but none of the regulars? Any suggestions for the rest of 'em?

I've always had a bad habit of not actually painting armies, let alone finishing the bases...

I really had the idea that the AOBR Warboss was impossible to convert. I see now that I was delightfully mistaken.

In case anyone was wondering, the shooty gubbins came from two shootas and a terminator heavy flamer, plus the nitrous tanks from the trukk I shredded to make my looted wagon. Used a bonesaw to clip everything in front of the trigger, as well as clipping off the drum clip from the first shoota, then clipping everything behind the clip on the other shoota.

The bonesaw is probably one of the best tools in my kit...
