I painted this one for GD uk last year.

Here are new pictures of the model

The painting is wonderful, but the ork looks a bit static. Did you win anything with it?

I mean, I don't want to sound mean, I mean this in the most constructive way possible, since I imagine you'll be competing this year too, but if you ended up losing, it would probably be because of the Ork's somewhat static and unbalanced pose, and his weird jewish metal hat thing. The hat just looks poorely painted compared to the rest of a wonderfully done model. Additionally, the Swulf's sword and necklace looks kind of rushed.

Otherwise, your colour choice, wear and tear, and basing are wonderful.

Would you tell me exactly what you used for the Swulf's face though? I've been having trouble keeping my skin colours from getting too thick lately, and I really like what you've got going on with this guy.

Thanks, I know the Ork is very static, but I'll do something better for next year

I can't remember the exact recipe for the skin, but it was something along the lines of:

Tallarn Flesh

Wash with a few layers of watered down ogryn flesh with a hint of purple and green (very tiny amounts)

Tallarn flesh

Tallarn mixed with bleached bone

Increasing bleached bone then a touch of white into the mix.

watered down wash again

Rehighlight.

Hope that helps...

Well, I was just wondering how much you watered it down, but that helps a lot too.

I find with skin tones, I do a lot of layers, and it ends up getting kind of thick. This is most notable with lighter skin tones for me (I can do dark skin just fine for some reason). It might just be the white I use (Vallejo Foundation White, maybe a non-foundation colour should be used?).

I use a similar amount of layers for my skin (maybe one or two less), so I'm just wondering how watered down you make the base colours.

Well it was undercoated white, so this means that the basecoat only needs to be thin, sort of milky....

Use thin layers and it will look smooth
