So, I saw the DOOM flayer.

Doom wheel look alike in almost every way?

Obviously, it might have different rules, but surely rats can only have so much segway goodness before it becomes rather uninteresting?

opinions, please?

I love this model:

Unfortunately, it's over $40... I still also think that a large marble or small ping-pong ball with a lot of spikey bits would work just fine, too, and actually look closer to the model that's being released. Although, the main portion of the above model looks pretty easy to make, too.

I have to say that the other releases for skaven look Good, especially the warp lightning cannon (link to GW's advanced orders page):

I quite like it based purely on looks actually. Though the bloodbowl model looks fun also.

Personally, the Warp Lightning Cannon was a poor change to me, but then I liked Old Brassy and I think the Warpstone Chunks are starting to get the Weapon-size treatment (see: Becoming needlessly heroic in size).

However, they're still good models. I wouldn't say the Doom Flayer's a revamp, per se, as there are some notable differences between the models and there are to be some design similarities expected from the two.

If you're looking for a cheaper alternative, there's a few options. Obviously, any real swords or spears or spikes you have laying around can readily contribute to the "50% GW model" requirement, in addition to the fact that you need at least two Skaven to represent the crew / team. Even Clanrats could probably be converted for the role, so if you made a thirty Clanrat block you should have a good 10-ish Skaven to spare (if you bought an odd number of these units overall).

I kind of like it and I kind of like the rules for it, but not sure I'm going to buy one just at the moment.

I really wish the Doomflayer had been a plastic kit instead of metal though. I freakin hate having to use superglue to assemble multi-part models. Doing my Vermin Lord has been a nightmare.

I feel the same way about the grudge-thrower. Which is why I will only ever have 1 of it in my army ( Completely metal and a pain to put together ).

Tretch and this Doom Flayer are my favorites of this 2nd wave. And with my 2part epoxy glue, metal models are no problem.

Tretch, really? I'm not at all a fan of that model. It didn't really fit my image of him from the army book at all.

I'm a big fan of the new Ikrit model though.

Tretch as a stand alone skaven model is awesome. However, he looks nothing like his picture in the book. So he gets a meh from me.

Ikit is awesome, and a definite purchase. I like the doomflayer, but i do not like the skaven tails...they are very poorly scultped...almost 6th edition bad. The warpgrinder is great, but a totally useless weapon team...would rather have an updated Thrott or something.

I'd say that's a plus. A model like the pic in the book would have been just another skaven with two hand weapons. The sculptor went for a more interesting pose and the mini has kind of grown on me as a consequence... though not enough to overcome Tretch's duff rules.

The Tretch model is characterful and doesn't have his left foot in front

My first instinct on Tretch was that I didn't like him. On further reflection though, I kinda think he's cool. I respect the attempt at something a little different- especially with the weapons.

“It was in lands of the Chi-An where she finally ran him to ground. There she kissed him deeply as he lay dying, and so stole from him his last, agonized breath.

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”
