Does any one have any ideas about, or experience with Tallarn conversions? That is, conversions to produce models that are not available in the range, such as flamers? Additionally, ideas for variations of officers, sergeants, melta gunners, and plasma gunners are welcome.

The lasgun guy with the grenade is an easy mark for several conversions, but not the flamer.

People often convert steel legion metals to have flamers using the cadian parts. I am sure you could attempt something similar.

there is a Necromunda guy with a flamer that I use. House Orlock heavy. He doesn't quite look Tallarn but I found when painted the same he blends pretty well

I'm currently repainting an old tallarn army (2 35 man platoons, 3 HW squads, 10 tallarn rough riders, 3 FW tallarn sentinals and a load other stuff) which has a few conversions. I've been keeping an eye out for other ideas and more conversions I could do as well. Can't do pics at the moment though..

A good platform for conversions is the plasma pistol sergeant- it's perfect for a handswap (and plasma pistols... worth it anyway?). I replaced the hand with a gloved one holding an old space marine standard, then made a banner and cut off the SM icongraphy. I also switched some of the pistols for cheaper bolt pistols.

I've seen some conversions using the FW tallarn tank commander torso mounted on Cadian legs to make a Company commander. If I try this I'll use metal tallarn legs probably though, or FW tallarn legs to get the puttees right.

I've also given thought to artillery crew... For a basilisk, Ill use the mortar team loader with his hands over his ears, and a conversion using the heavy bolter gunner torso- it'll be pinned to some metal infantry's legs and the hands made to look like they're holding binoculars rather than spade grips.

If you want a commisar that looks the part as well, there is an old version wearing sunglasses that's appropriate...

What else? I'm trying to do Sentinel crew using heavy bolter/autocannon gunner torsos. I'll be using the two torso types with my FW sentinels to make 3 unique drivers (including an unaltered resin one).

The tallarn really lack a flamer. Brotherjulian's idea is interesting, I've considered trying a swap of a valhalan's flamer with a guardsman that is hip-firing his lasgun- would be a bit tricky though!

Hope thats a few ideas

Thanks for the input guys.

I've already done a few pistol swaps for sergeants, and now I'm regretting destroying the pistols.

The flamer is probably do-able, as are melta gun swaps. I don't know of a suitable plasma gun since the plastic ones look too different for my tastes. Shotguns are another intriguing possibility.

If I come up with anything decent, I'll be sure to post.

Just wondering where/when tallarn rough riders were? The only GW rough riders I ever saw were those horrible mongol looking guys with the furry sombreros.

What would Yeenoghu do?

For flamers I use the GL guys and convert from there. The guy with his gun at a 45 degree angle and throwing a grenade is also easy to convert. I'll post pics.

There was that "test sculpt" Tallarn Flamer and new Lasgunner that showed up at some of the Gamesdays a while back... Pity they'll likely never see the light of day, even as collector's releases. I know I'd buy a few for my own Tallarn army if they did...

The GW released Tallarn Rough Riders were just slight alterations of the Attilan Rough Riders with turban/headdresses instead of the furry hats. As I recall that was the only change...they still used the furry booted legs from the Attilans.

There are also FW Tallarn Rough Riders of course.

They are still available in the Collectors section of the GW website. The Tallarn have their own torsos, but use the same legs as the Attilan riders.

They did make a Tallarn plasma gunner, or do you simply want some alternate poses for them?

Those 2009 games day tallarn test sculpts were interesting.. it really looked like they were going to redo tallarns with the modern style lasguns and hero-proportions. Found a pic on Warseer:

The only other tallarn unreleased mini I know of was the Tallarn sniper with an Vindicare Assassain Exitus Rifle... there's a pic of that on this great Wiki:

There were two limited edition dead tallarns as well- they crop up on ebay now and again.

(Edit for better link)

I've got several, but they're hard to come by. Well, not really "hard", just expensive. One has to buy a squad to get the plasma gun. So it's partly for variety, and partly to get enough models equipped the way I want that's involved here.
