Looks awesome, you really did a great model justice!

Nice work! How did you get the glowing effect on the Plasma Blastgun?

Looks quite nice. However, I can't tell if the glowing around the eyes is residual glowing from the gun or if it's coming from the eyes. If it's the former, then the redidual glow shouldn't be so focussed around the eye, it should be all over the right side of the head. If it is the latter, then I think it ruins the brooding, Chaos-y feel of the model. The blue works for the blastgun because it's plasma, but when the rest of the model has a dark and brooding green/rusty look and then it's got these bright glowing blue eyes...it skews the look.

It's hard to say anything other than "WOW", but that blue on the blastgun is fantastic. I had a look on your blog as well and love the interior - it looks spooky as hell without being in your face choas-y. Great stuff.

I love the more ghostly rather than OTT gothic chaos look. Sometimes more spikes and gore are not the way to look scary. The glowing effects are also excellent, something I aspire to being able to do. Could you explain how you acheived the effect?

Have you ever tried a resin and or vinyl one? I have, and you might like it if you enjoyed the larger models.

Theres a wide variety of 'doll' type kits from Japan in many subjects in a similar scale! I did a girl on a sportbike, it was unusual to build, it was a composite kit with aluminum, brass etch, clear plastic, vinyl and resin components, but it was fun to build and paint, essentially a cartoon character on a real world sport bike.

Check out the figures at HLJ, (Hobby Link Japan) assuming you are not limited to GW subjects. (You can also probably make a mint on high end completed character kits, especially if you pick right!) Hope you enjoy!

That's a lovely paintjob but I agree with Darth Bob that the first thing that struck me was the reflection of the blue around the eye socket and it doesn't look right (could just be the picture though). It looks like you've tried to capture that the metallic element around the eye is reflecting the blue but something about it doesn't seem to work for me.

The way you've done the blue of the cannon to make it look like it's pulsing is great.

It looks like he was going for an internal glow from the eyes as it seems that you can catch a glimpse of blue on the eye on the far side as well.

The glowing effect was achieved by airbrushing a few thin layers of turquoise, the models interior was done entirely in turquoise as well and that's why you can see some light around the eye. I was going for a simple but effective approach there, I'm happy with it, but I have to admit the glow looks a little better in the pictures. If you check out my blog there are some interior shots.

@ augustus, thanks for the advice man, I'll have to check those out. I'm always looking for an excuse to collect some new models. So far I've only received commissions for 40k stuff so alot of that goes on my coolmini gallery. But I have been trying to expand my collection, I've scooped up some rackham minis and even finished some reaper models, some cute manga chicks sound like fun. thanks

Brilliant: looks chaotic without being OTT, nice to know I'm not the only one who paints plasma weapons blue.

I really love the effect from the plasma. Mine's glow isn't as subtle, and I dig the effect that yours has. Did you use an airbrush, or a paintbrush?

Lol, thanks guys Yes I did use an airbursh on just about the whole thing. The metal was painted on after I did the armor plates then given a wash of badab black followed by a rust wash. Just some steel wool sitting in an empty blister pack for a few days.
