Roight, as you may know I'm currently painting a set of Heroquest. Here's a WIP shot of what things currently look like:

So far basically nothing's finished. Maybe the skeletons, Zombies and Mummies are. Heroes need some more work, Orcs and Goblins are currently under the brush and are slowly getting there now. After that I'll do the Fimir (which are pretty much at the beginning right now). Hope you ike them so far!

Hello, hello. Don't turn your radio on, because I bring you all the hot news anyway.

First, I had another game of Sellswords and Spellslingers again the past weekend. It's the second chapter in the saga of Grystal, Monty Inigo, Henni Hinkel von Hammerfels and ...Derek the Dark Elf. And Marius.

Hope to get the battle report up soon!

Second, here's a new WIP shot of the Heroquest figures:

Hope you like them so far. Currently I'm working on a bunch more of the furniture (lots and lots of it), and then I'll do the Gargoyle and Warlock. After that I'll do some neatening up (hero faces and everything else, plus: those bases).

@Arakasi: Thanks very much. It's pretty nice to work with this iconic set of figures.

Right, instead of playing more silly video games last night (Bannerlord), I sat down and wrote the battle report of our lastest Sellswords & Spellslingers adventure. In this our heroes try to learn more about the fate of Marius, whom they had to leave on the battlefield in the prior scenario.

Nice work.

I had never thought about painting the bloke on a plinth as a bloke on a plinth. I always thought of that piece as a carved statue on a tomb. Makes sense now I see it painted.

@Dr H: Cheers! Me neither. To be honest, the whole idea only came to me based on two things - I thought I'd look lazy if I only painted it as all stone (and I'm really anxious about looking lazy in painting, because I know that I am an incredibly lazy person ) and bloke was really fun to paint. The sagophagus being painted as just that makes much more sense I think, but the idea of an undecaying bloke lying there as if he might get up at any point (and he looks like a badass too) probably is more dramatic. Also, it slaps some colour onto this chunk of scenery.

Right, happy Sunday! It's a bit cloudy today, bit of wind, as in the past few days. Good thing is that it rains these days, at least for a little while here and there. Apart from that, I painted the Warlock and the Gargoyle. Also did the rest of the furniture, along with the rats and skulls on top of them. Fun fact which I haven't been aware of - there are two different sculpts of that rat with slight differences.

This probably is the last WIP shot of the Heroquest figures. Now I gotta somehow figure out how I do these bloody bases, goblin socks and belt buckles, barbarian and wizard faces and Elf details. Hope to get that done quickly. Oh, and then I gotta do a Halfling Hot Pot I got to do along with the Heroquest figures. Good combination of things from the glory days of GW.

Yeah, that's why I liked that idea. I'll remember that for when I come to re-paint the set I have.

Good work on the rest of the scenery and Mr gargoyle and Mr sorcerer..

@Arakasi: Thanks very much.

@moskoletor: Absolutely. Even people who never played the game are familiar with these iconic figures I'm sure.

@Gitsplitta: Oh yes, there's a lot of good in there. I never realized that he probably really was a Bloodthirster in the English version of the game. In the German version he was the Gargoyle. (which is why the studio paintjob was kinda confusing, with all reds and browns and no stone-looking surface in sight.

Right, since the Heroquest thing is pretty much done and dusted (only gotta do administrive stuff now and send the minis off) I took the time to write up the latest Sellswords&Spellslingers battle report, featuring a whole new cast of characters.

Right, here's a Halfling Hot Pot:

These I will send off along with the Heroquest figures.

Then I cleaned the last batch(!) of Super Dungeon Explore figures and primed them. While the primer was drying (and primer can barely dry for long enough), I worked on some more generic baddies for Sellswords&Spellslingers. I still had some Mantic and Wargames Factory zombies built from back in 2012/13 when I was working on my modern Zombie skirmish collection. I got out some sprues of Mantic zombies (which in general are OK, just a bit limited in pose and for some reason they're huge). The thought of building and painting just 10 to 15 generic Mantic Zombies bored me so much I almost fell out of my chair. So I got out some more bits and hacked up their arms for some more variety. Over the next hour or so the theme went from "zombies" over "demonic, flayed looking lanky viking tribe" and "swamp ghoul people" to "generally nasty wild people the postman prefers to forget about on his tour".

I added some bits, a 13th dude (based on a Warlord Zulu warrior body and other bits), and some Green stuff. Now they're curing. I'm aware that these aren't enough for a full Sellswords&Spellslingers Scenario (for which I usually calculate with at least 20 baddies required for a gang of 4 characters). But they'll work OK as allies of the scenario's nasties, for a scenario event, or something like that.

Not perfect, but at least they look a bit different to the regular Zombies now. And I intend to stick to that theme for the paintjob as well. Because who's got the time. There's plenty of other stuff to do, and these are just for myself after all.

@Gitsplitta: Indeed.

@modkolektor: There have been several ninjas already which I painted for this collection!

@Warboss_Waaazag: Yeah, Super Dungeon Explore figures are really, really cool. Quite different to paint (especially human characters), but great to look at and very satisfying to paint. Especially knowing that it's not very easy and being able to pull it off.

Good morning, people of the world.

Here's another WIP shot of the tortoise gang:

Not that much new (since I had to squeeze in a little other thing I had to finalize), but I got the cannon turrets on the backs of the canoniers done and got a chunk of work done on TESTUDO TOWER (the boss, quite clearly). What's left to do on him is mostly finishing the top of the shell and some of the stuff on top (in the back of his shell there's a mining cart full of cannonballs as ammo, bolted to the shell and held in place with a big rubber band looking thing) and some other details (tongues, the "KEEP OUT" lettering in the front of the howdah on his back and so on). After that I'll have to do the bases on all of these chaps. And some general neatening up.

And then I'll be done with the last batch of SDE figures (at least until another lovely person decides they wanna have their SDE collection painted by me), which is kinda bitter-sweet. I think I started working on these in 2016? 2015? Extremely satisfying to work with, and they're one of these projects which pulled me out of my comfort zone and which I believe made me a more capable and well-rounded painter. The thing is that I paint ALL THE THINGS. There are people who only paint Space Marines, or only paint Warmachine stuff, or only GW stuff, or only historical stuff, or only 15mm stuff, or only single miniatures, or only armies, or only large scale figures, only showcase figures, only "tabletop standard" stuff - I do it all. Which I'm really happy with, especially since people of all sorts of genres seek out my services and so on. Which of course I'm very thankful for. And yet - there's SO much more stuff out there. At a convention last year I met a lady who does doll customization. Cool, cool stuff. So much material knowledge, such very different approaches. Oh well. There are many cool things out there. Things which computers won't do for us and which don't happen digitally.

Oh well, I better get these figures done swiftly, so I can move on to the next of the many projects I should be working on, preferrably at the same time. Which is a bit stressful, but of course makes me very happy. It's very, very humbling. I don't deserve as much luck as I have really. Anyway, it's late. I better go to bed. G'noight.

Hello, friends. How are we all doing today?

Last night I finished the Tortoises for Super Dungeon Explore.

Kinda different as a batch of SDE figures as compared to others which were very individual figures. The glowy rocks are spawning points. Anyway, good body of reptilians, that. Especially with Testudo Tower as boss.

Yup, that's that. Hope you like them!

That is true. I didn't make it any better by putting a weird hat on his head. But I had him built, so better I use him rather than just having the model lie around for another 7 years without doing anything with it.
