I've always woundered if you can put a magic shield on a BSB where it says he can have any other mundane items then armor. For example, could i give a empire captain a bsb, full plate and enchanted shield?

If he is only allowed mundane armour, then no. Otherwise, assukming he doesnt take a magic standard, then yes he can have magic armour.

Yes you can take the ES. Magic armor USED to have a rule stating that a mundane option for armor OR shield needs to be present in order to take a magic one. That rule no longer exists as there is no distinction between TYPES of magic armor. Shield, breastplate, helm, all the same. If you can wear armor, you can take any of the magic items regardless of where you wear it.

Keep in mind that a magic shield is the ONLY way an empire BSB can have one, provided he is not taking a magic banner.

Thx, wasnt sure because i had asked before got got different answers(well, i did again...)
I also seems sort of unfair as some bsb carriers of some armies actually can have a shield while some dont, i guess he's just gonna have to stick it in the ground or something and then use the shield!

Yes, some 7th and 6th ed armies are restricted in what equipment they can give a BSB - which sucks, but if you look at, I think, O&G onwards (think they were the first non-sucky BSB) you will see the trend is for BSBs who can take all normal, mundane equipment such as shields, armour, etc

Doesn't help if im playing dwarfs! Darn, and O&G are getting a new codex already! There lots of armies in need of a new book and they pick O&G because they make money of it...

Lol, well actually it does. I was merely checking cause the issue arose xD

Dwarfs arent so bad in that area. I meant they can make a pretty tough BSB in the form of a 1 + rerollable save with immunity to poison, killing blow and fire/warp lighting. Though I agree some reworking on the standards runes is needed. With that you wouldn't even need a shield. Give him a nice choppy greatweapon for cost effectiveness. And still be hard as nails.

In the Webway.

With most BSB you can give them any magic items (following the normal rules) as long as they don't have a magic standard. If they do, then you can't take magic weapons/armour, though you can usually take mundane armour.

Solbo - dwarves are still competitive and fun to play; O&G, while competitive as all hell CAN be really unfun to play. 1 bad round of animosity and your entire line is screwed.

They really need a new book. The fact they can (nearly) always get +4 dispel dice is horrific as well...

TO give you an idea: Empire and O&G together outsell almost every other fantasy race put together. Traditionally Empire or O&G are the "new book" when a new edition comes out, as well - and as it was empire for 7th, its O&G for 8th. Tomb Kings will hopefully be nezt.

Dwarfs have indeed got a nasty boost in 8th ed(so have many others as well)
Guessing for range, gone. GW warriors awesome and their characters are as hard as ever. With ld9 steadfast bsb they are so hard you are gonna have to kill em to a man! Ridicolus(think i spelled this wrong...)

Dwarves got the same boost that made saurus awesome – casualties from the back.

Actually, saurus get their ass kicked by dwarf warriors with GW. The thing is they have WS3(dwarfs hit them on 3s) and can only make a single supporting attack. And with spears they start losing attacks pretty quickly(and dont get parry save). Dwarfs ftw!

Except when the life slann makes then T8, and you have a -1 to hit from aheavens mage nearby.

Doesnt really matter if there's only 10 saurus left from my artillery xD
Specially if i bring a few runesmiths and Ro balance (dwarfs are imba)

Yes. All this stuff. For the record, O&G BSB's can't have any mundane equipment past armour; their rules are generally a hindrance, and their choices aren't as effective. But their army is absurd now, thanks to a handful of individual cases where a spell/item/rule went from "okay" to "absolutely sick" (Spirit Totem, Waaagh!, etc.). Mainly, it's that spell that makes them so amazing; I doubt you'd see many armies that don't try to focus around it a bit.

As for Dwarfs, yeah, their BSB can't have a shield or great weapon. But the Master Rune of Gromil is pretty solid (though, with all the character-sniping abilities out there, I'd forgo the re-rollable armour for a 5+ Ward). I guess a potentially cool option they have is to take a magical standard that gives him a 5+ Ward in addition to some awesome stuff (the Master Rune of Stromni Redbeard is sick, sick, sick, I tell you). But being slightly harder to kill just doesn't cut it for a BSB anymore, who probably sees more agro. than the general (+1 Ld, or re-roll Ld, which is better?).

Well, with plenty of warriors and magic defence(and 3 GTs) i think camping in a corner should cut it xD
Doesnt matter if they charge, and theres a rune giving all units whithin 6 a 5+ ward vs shooting! Cheeze

Dwarven gunlines are impressive yes, but corner camping is just asking for a comet

Well, O&G doesnt have the comet. If i face an army that do ill just have to be a little more agressive!

Apparently on the internet every army is unbeatable.

Lol, true. We all make our lists to win any battle, least on paper. The thing is that in the end it's all up to the almighty dice gods to determine our fates(and our mistakes of course)

hehe, I'd love to face a gun line that just sat there and clumped. Warp Lightning Cannons end in a small blast, Poisoned Wind Mortars are small blast, Warpfire Throwers use the flame template, Plague Claw Catapults use the large templates... Man I wish I had time to actually get games in...
