Really new (only a few months) at collecting 40k models and already have started modding some of my vehicles just to make them stand out at local games. Still got a ways to go learning different painting techniques and just practicing in general but having fun none the less and thought I'd share some of my amateur work.
Also first time poster but been here lurking a few times before.

First off my Looted Wagon via Hammer head thus a "Looted 'Ammer'Ead"
Front:

Back:

Side:

Next my Battle Wagon made from a Necron Monolith thus a "Ork Waaagolith" (I am going to be mounting this on crater terrain, below, and putting a pole covered in some smoke to make it appear to be held aloft by a rocket on it's undercarriage).
Front:

Side:

Lastly two pieces of custom made terrain. A crashed asteroid and the crater base for the Waaagholith:

The 'Keep Out' sign really made it for me. XD I can picture that careening about the battlefield on rockets just a liiiittle bit too easily!

I have recently been diagnosed with swelling in the brain, so please excuse spelling mistakes and faulty sentences. I am losing my ability to type and talk effectively, but dammit, that is not going to stop me from trying.

Haha yeah, it should look even better when it's hovering over that crater piece with black cotton showing as exhaust.
From a fluff perspective I have no clue how they got it >_>

Yeah just realized after I posted that I spelled it Daka instead of Dakka xD
Oh well, don't think anyone can really criticize that to much. They are Orks after all so I'm certain the spelling can fit either way lol.

Yap, I had originally planned just to board it up since it was something I couldn't figure out how to get rid of (seeing as Orks wouldn't use the portal... well they might but not likely lol). It was actually a friends idea to put "keep out" then I just decided to add to it figuring one curious Grot might have come back ranting about "Dead fings"

I would have wagered that neither of those models could have been convincingly "looted". Really fine job DBL... color me impressed!

I think I could make a looted version of just about anything given enough extra orky bits =D

When I read the thread title, I thought "Oh no, another rubbish Tau looted vehicle, but I'll check out the Waagholith." Pleased to say BOTH are great.

You know... you should put a deffkopta on the top of that monolith like it's a landing pad.... :-)

xD quite the epic idea. I want to actually put a Grot like... on the wheel though. Almost like he's riding it and just leaning left and right to steer it.

Excellent idea DBL... it just struck me as funny to have this flying building functioning like an aircraft carrier. The grot steersman is a great idea though... Make sure you take a good close-up shot when you get him on there so we can all enjoy it!

Indeed, just gotta figure out how to make my camera focus a bit better as it tends to have trouble at such close ranges. I plan on making an update post to the waaagolith when I get the helmsmen and the exhaust + pole + crater base all put together.
Just need to find a sturdy enough piece of clear pole first (well not sure it needs to be clear, but it would help since it wouldn't show under the spray painted cotton exhaust after).

Also found some Ork pirates down at my local hobby shop I'm going to pick up in a few days, might through a few hanging off the masts. A buddy is playing Dark Eldar so provided his extra sails hoping he picks up a few more so I can toss them on as well, that or pick up some larger ones from a shop that does miniature boats or something.

Fluff wise, I would say sheer perseverance. Orks are pretty determined when they put their minds to it... so hammer at the defences until it stops flying, then lob some bomb-squigs into the big glowy portal things until they stop glowing....

Of course, they might have had to chase and hunt a few before they got one that didn't phase out or fly off, but I bet they could do it.

Or after running into a few and wanting to loot the bodies, a Mek Boy invented an Ork "Kapture" ray that kept them from phasing out xD
I mean Ork tech basically works if Orks think it would work so that might... work... as a fluff thing lol.

Suppose I should put up some more of my boyz. The shots are not great here because I can't figure out how to get my Nikon to focus (or even if it can) at such close range but whatever. Not as good as my vehicles but figured they should get some pics anyways =p
