hey guys, i'm want to achieve a wet blending effect on my DAs. but method i am using at the moment is just mix alot of water with the highlight colour and add in layers, so it sort of blends, but too much water makes it go messy. example:

i have read about wet blending, but the difficulty is the paint dries too quick for my liking. do i have to add white spirit to the paint to get it to work?

Hey,
If you look up a bloke called 'LBursley' in the painting tutorial section he did a video on it where he used oil based paint if my memory serves me correctly.

Add some retarder to your paints when watering them down to delay the drying time. Im sure a quick search will give you specifics.

Don't add white spirit to acrylic paints, it does not mix.

Add a bit of acrylic polymer medium.

There are various types which give different effects. Some of them are to slow down drying and allow more blending to be done.

Check manufacturers like Liquitex, Golden, and Daler Rowney for more info.

If you go the fine arts retardant route, make sure you pick up something that flows well. Some of them match the consistency of fine art acrylics which is significantly thicker than model paints.

Google "wet palette" as well, that's an inexpensive way of extending the drying time of your paints, which is useful even if you aren't wet blending.
