Here is my latest attempt at improving my painting techniques. I did not use any black on this model. All of the shading is done with glazes of blue or purple that I mixed up myself (another thing I was trying out). I still haven't reached a comfortable point with the consistency of glazes of how to use them, but I learned a little on this little guy.

I saw this mini online and could not pass it up. He is such a little cutey and Cthulhu is one of Nemissary's favorite things. I painted it up for Nem and I used a custom base that Nem makes and casts himself.

Comments and criticisms needed and encouraged. Don't worry about hurting my feelings, this is here for me to get feedback and learn to be better.

Thanks for looking

The mini looks great. Nice combination of colours and the glazing is done very well.
Do you use any additional agents for your glazing or just water/paint?

I just looked at Maow Miniatures, they have some good stuff. Thanks for mentioning them.

It's not easy to find criticism, but since you asked. The tiles appear to be done a whole lot rougher. The colours there are not nearly as blended as on the actual model. It might make a bit more coherent figure if some blending is done there as well.

I love the model and I absolutely LOVE the base. Do you make the tiled bases yourself or is there an online store that sells them?

@Enginseer: You are right about the base. I think I was excited about the mini and rushed the base. I will go back and smooth it out. Thanks for the suggestion. The more I look at it, the more I think I really went tto fast on the tiles.

@ Aethis: The bases are made by Nemissary. He is active on this forum and several others. He custom made the bases that he wanted and then made rubber molds to cast them. He uses Alumilite kits for his molds and resin.

Sorry but this one I can't offer you much on. Perhaps some more colours on the tentacles that stretch over the base and maybe a little more colour to the head of the shovel. The actual figure itself is excellent, both the sculpt and the paintjob.

I can set you a challenge however. Find a figure like a barbarian with lots of muscle over large areas and blend the skintones. I think that would be a very good exercise for your skills.

Can I suggest skipping forward 10 years to the age where you don't really care about what people say on the internet. Studies show that it decreases your anger about life in general by 37%. - Flashman

Really nice model!

I think the tentacles on the floor could use a little more detail, even if it was just one more highlighting note or something. That's totally just being overly critical because I wanted to give you some sort of feedback. Even without doing that it's a fantastic model.

excellent job! I love it! i like that touch of color above the left ear, i think that gives the green a more realistic touch. What is it and would that be something you would incorporate in greens in the future?

@enginseer: Sorry i missed that question.. I used water and liquitex slo-dri blending medium. First time trying it out.

@noahthpirate: The color above the ear areas, that isn't blue, is a thinned down was of warlock purple. The blues are thinned down enchanted blue. I started to do some reds but stopped myself. I think I covered too much of my purples with the blues and reglazing with the greens, but live and learn
