Here's another HQ I painted. I plan on using him as a captain so I can finally take a command squad. I was considering giving him a Thunder Hammer, but I really didnt want to sacrifice that awesome Initiative 5. Comments and criticism are welcome and appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks dude. That means a lot coming from you. I'm starting to get back into painting 40k models and am hoping to get Vulkan all fixed up and painted next.

The cloak is very good indeed. Excellent, in fact.

The black on the shoulder pad is not quite so good, and I really feel the model is let down by the combi-melta paint job. It needs at least a heavy black wash and re-highlight, and possibly a re-paint to do justice to the cloak.

Though guards may sleep and ships may lay at anchor, our foes know full well that big guns never tire.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I'll try and fix the combi-melta and pads and post the revised model soon.

Have to agree with the other comment here. The front and the back shots almost make it look like different minatures! Not because the front is bad (because it really isn't!) but the back just hits you like BLAM! Great work on this minature. What base are you thinking of? Lava?

I'm not entirely sure what I want to use as a base. I don't have a lot of experience with basing, but I love the idea of using lava. Furthermore, seeing all these posts of custom bases is really tempting me to get invovled with that aspect of the hobby, so perhaps I'll try out a lava base after I seek out some guidance from the more experienced hobbyists and the manager at my FLGS. Thanks for the kind comments!

The cape is awesome! And as for a base, I would base it flat grey, then paint jagged lines of layered reds and oranges, then finish it off with some gloss varnish. I did this with one of my combat squads, it looks great!

I dig the cape. The orange tip on his combi weapon really makes it look like a toy gun though. You might consider the more traditional, soot stained look alot of people use on meltas. If you're considering lava bases, check these out http://www.forgecraftgames.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=33 I'm using bases from this company for my Elysian army and they are just incredible. At $15 for 25 they're only about .60 each. Somthing as small as a space marine army wouldn't cost too much to do.

Overall nice model though congrats!
