I'm a little fuzzy on exactly how this is played out, and no matter how many times I read the rule, I still think I'm missing something. Here's how I play it -

Marine looses combat by 2 casualties, so I take my standard Ld test at -2. If I fail this, I then take the 2 No Retreat saves.

Is this correct? I'm just not sure I should be taking two tests.

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!

Not exactly.

if you lose by 2, you take a LD test at -2, if failed you roll for Sweeping advance.

If caught by a sweeping advance, you then take No Retreat saves instead of being wiped from the board.

and, because of Combat Tactics, you can choose to auto-fail the test and run away. you then roll for sweep.

IF you are caught, you take the 2 Armor saves as if fearless.

IF you arn't caught, you fall back as normal(auto rallying when 6+" away from any enemy)

+1 to grey templar. just to restate and hopefully clarify:
- loose combt and determine modifer.
-either choose to fail the test, or roll it.
- if failed, roll init and fallback distance.
- if your caught, take your no retreat wounds.

basically ATSKNF means if you retreat from combat your not auto wiped, you just take no retreat wounds, and you can always regroup even if below 50%. (providing no enemy within 6")

combat tatcics lets you always choose to fail a morale check (not sure if its just for CC or not).

You can use it to fail any Morale test your unit is called upon to take.
Sometimes useful for getting out of Dodge, especially since the fall back move is not slowed by difficult terrain.

Combat tactics is for any Morale tests(CC and Shooting)

the classic way of using it is this.

your Marines get shot at and take 25% casualities. you then choose to fail the test and fall back out of assault range.

next turn, you auto rally and shoot your would be assaulters.
