Wow, that is surprisingly similar in style to your tyranid. I wonder why I thought they'd be different?

In any case, nice job.

Painting style looks really good on these guys as well. Reminds me of the game XIII for PS2 and Xbox.

I like them... they look like they should be played on a table lit by black lights with lots of drug paraphernalia lying around...

*grin*

(really do like them)

Oy! They look straight out of a conic book or something. Very nice. I have absolutely no idea how you get that kind of effect, but it looks good, if not a little strange.

Thanks guys.

Limbo,

Just layering with feathering in between coats.

Blackclaw1

The black lines are the undercoat left visible.

Devilution,

I will do a tutorial at some point.

Cable,

GW blood red with a mix of blood red/sunburst yellow for the highlights. The undercoat was black.

Very OLD SKOOL, I like that a lot, I recall when a lot of older painters from the early 90s did work like this, I know how time consuming it is having dabbled in the same techniques. Once upon a time I always painted my minis up from a flat black base, made pink and cream awful hard to do...

I really like the comic book lines it gives the finished pieces, though it isn't so close to a convincingly realistic style (I also like in others techniques) I think it fits the world view better than the realistic weathered paint jobs do. Thematically, Warhammer always felt like a comic book world to me, not a real one and literally seeing models painted that way is awesome!

Plus its nostalgic from long ago.

Have you been painting a long time? or did you just learn to paint this way recently (since 2000)?

Another quick question...how long does it take to paint one model, say a terminator?

That's really a striking and very well-executed style. I'm sure it took a lot of careful painting. While I also like a realistic style, this probably looks FANTASTIC on the table as well.

So many really wonderful paint schemes look great close up, but the details kind of disappear from arm's length. Other, really striking, paint jobs look great on the tabletop, but garish and slapdash close up. This one looks good from every distance in the photos. I'd love to see some photos of these on a battlefield. I bet they would still look great.

Super job.

Thanks for you comments guys.

Augustus,

I have been painting since about 2002 ish. I did paint when I was a child as well but that does not really count. I think my style has developed from a love of dark to light fades. Not sure if I have quite got it right yet but I will persevere.

Cable,

I’m a bit of a slow painter. I’m not sure how long it took for each model as I painted them as a group but I would say about 5hrs

Once again a fantastic paintjob on these Nard. To see such a different and intriguing paint style done so effectively shows that different styles can work well in creating a colourful army.

Your painting precision is very evident on your CSM. Incredible work, I can imagine these took more than a few days to finish I really like your painting style, its rare to see something out of the norm (or someone bold enough to try something out of the norm). Your characters have an almost cell-shade appearance...really unique. Great pictures of the detail and Fantastic paint work!
