I don't get it. The regular Chimera design looks better and much more 40k to me, and this is a conversion kit that costs $35.00 (with shipping) on top of a model that's already expensive for its points?

I think it's a great luxury item. It's a bit on the expensive side, but it's not meant to be a Chimera replacement. It's an accessory that you can buy to make your models stand out (like Forge World).

I could see myself buying these for a Mechanicus army following the "older technology is better technology" credo. However, I agree that the cost is highly prohibitive on a part that I'd need 4-8 of (plus Chimeras themselves).

Well it's certainly a neat design, but why anyone would pay 35$ for it is beyond me.

I guess the main complaint regarding price is that it's too expensive for something so commonplace. It's a great model that fits the GW aesthetic, but it is meant to be a run-of-the-mill APC, not a command APC or something one-of. Thus, you need to buy a lot of it, and the cost hurts.

Love it. The turret is really nice, and I like the fire ports to replace the lasguns and reflect the changes in the rules. The back doors are great.

HBMC is right though, with the shape of the hull deck so similar to the GW design, please be careful how you market that.

Yeah, but this doubles the price. Most 3rd party kits don't do that to you.

I like the look, although the bubble hatches and blockier turret don't really say 'sleeker' to me... rather the opposite, really.

The hull top does look a little too much like the GW part with some different detail sculpted on for comfort, though. I wouldn't expect this kit to be around for very long.

I really like the BMP-1 look and I think this is an excellent kit, however for $25 I think it is overpriced, as well as the $10 dollar shipping. A price of around $15 would be a much better price-point for something that is just an aesthetic upgrade upon the chimera, IMHO.

Thats the first thing I thought of. Being that sets like this one are common in the scale modeling industry GW may well lose that suit. It doesnt violate IP to make parts that add to something.

Look up a company called Verlinden...one of their main products is scale armor "update" sets similar to the one shown by OP.

I like it, I think the price is fine for one tank that you might want to stand out like for your HQ command or something like that. I pimped out a razorback with all kinds of FW doors and extra armor and big dozer blade for my marine commander, the tank came out to like $75 when it was done, and that was like 6 years ago

It would be cool if they could break up the set though, like if you wanted just the tank top, or just the back doors, or just the turret.

I've been wanting to do a chimera top conversion that I'd hopefully cast so I can have all of mine be the same, but I know I'll never get to it. But, I was going to have the turret moved farther back toward the rear of the tank, kinda like the little turret the APC in Aliens.

It's very nice looking, but it's too expensive for what it does. Maybe it can't be cheaper, that's certainly possible, in which case it's also a failure as a product.

The supply does not get to make the demands.

Not bad at all, although it actually makes the Chimera look more like one of its key inspirations (the BMP). The revised hatch detail is certainly an improvement - the turret maybe could have been a bit more interesting.

Without going too off-topic:

There's a difference in what Verlinden does versus Chapterhouse.
The difference?

The companies that produce the product that Verlinden is 'supplementing' didn't actually create (or in many cases, license) the design for the item they're producing.

There was an interesting article in a Fine Scale Modeler last year about the "Rise of licensing" in the automobile/armor modeling field after Chrysler/Dodge supposedly put the kibosh on a model kit, being produced without license, of a Jeep Wrangler.

Wonderful...until you show up with your Leaf-Blower/Mech-Guard Army at a GW sponsored event and they make you put all them melta-vets on foot since the aftermarket "counts as chimera" isn't legal.

To be clear, this is a Chimera. It has a different top, turret, and back. I think it'd be fine as a "conversion" in GW tourneys.

Not for the ones that opt for the "75% GW parts" v. the supposedly 'normal' "50% GW parts" ratio

It's nice looking and all, but it really doesn't do that much to differentiate itself from a normal Chimera.
At least not $35 worth of "difference" in my opinion.

The way GW is going, they might as well just say 75% of the money spent on the model. That would normally be pretty easy to meet.
