If anyone's interested, I plan on doing an EW German Heer Kompanie to represent the 196th Heer Division in Operation Weserubung and figured it might be interesting to share some thoughts and ideas on the subject. I just started and there's a lot more research to do but this site has been a big help.

I recently stumbled across this monster of a tank - the Neubaufahrzeug V (PzKpfw NbFz V) - an early heavy tank design:

Only 5-6 were ever built, all of them serving in Norway at some point.

Anyone know if there's a company that makes this tank in 15mm?

Its not a Heavy Tank, its a Medium tank. Two prototypes were made in 1934, both were made from mild steel, so not armored. On the strength of tests on the prototypes 3 production vehicles were ordered and completed in 1935 all with proper Armour.

The two initial prototypes never saw action but were used as driver training tanks at the Putlos tank training school.

The three production vehicles were attached to Zbv40 and sent to Norway in April 1940 where they saw action and one was destroyed. The two remaining examples were sent back to Germany at the end of 1940 and seem to have disappeared after that, most believe they were scrapped.

Only one company makes one in 15mm

The Tank is better known as the "Propagander" Tank, in that it was shown off in order to scare the allies but was in fact totally useless. You can tell the difference between the Prototypes and the 3 production vehicles as they had different turrets and the production models used a Pz1 turret with only one MG as the small MG turrets.

Actually one of the mild steel versions went to Norway as replacements for the one serving with 196 Infantry Div. that got stuck in a swamp and had to be blown up. The mild steel one arrived after the fighting was over however.

The order to scrap them was given in 1941 and carried out in Norway in 1942. All that remains is some running gear, from the one that was blown up in the swamp, which is in the Gudbransel Museum.

Bloody useless things.

Wheres that info from P, Ive not seen that and that probably means I'm going to have to buy yet another really expensive overpriced book on German Tanks to add to the 30 odd expensive overpriced books on German tanks I already bloody own!

I do wish people would stop finding things out after 70 years........................

Knowing the recesses of my brain, most likely the info came from Chamberlin & Doyle (the grandaddies of German tanks rivet-counting!) in Encyclopedia of German Tanks of World War Two: The Complete Illustrated Directory of German Battle Tanks, Armoured Cars, Self-propelled guns and Semi-tracked Vehicles 1939-1945... Old book but a good 'un! Either that or from Zaloga but I have it in several sources on the Norway campaign and also in another book on panzer development as the scrapping of them coincided with the Sturer Emil construction.

I seem to remember I have an account somewhere from the crew of one of them that was engaged by a British 25mm gun. Didnt sound like a fun experience for them. I believe the 25mm Hotchkiss knocked the tank out.

They were also repainted in plain grey before going to Norway, previously they had been in Buntfarbenanstrich camo.

Good god, I thought I knew a good amount about this campaign! Thanks all.

Anyone know a good online source for more info (in general)?

Its not from the Encyclopedia or Zaloga, Ive got them. Something Norway specific Id guess.

The Encyclopedia is my favorite book ever and I got it many years ago for nothing!

You know your tanks crap if its been taken out by a poxy 25mm ATG.

Yer... If a Hotchkiss 25mm ruins your day, then its really time to trade up to a Panzer III.

May well have been my copy of the German report on the Norway campaign that I got it from... Will have a look.
