In the SM codex it says that any model in the Sterngaurd Veteran squad can replace his bolter with a storm bolter, does the model keep the special issue ammunition if they make that switch? And than can they fire any of the shell twice, like a normal storm bolter?

Storm Bolter does not = Boltgun

Since the ammo replaces the Boltgun profile if you switch to a storm bolter you can not replace the Boltgun profile since there is no Boltgun anymore.

Ok, I just checked back in the codex and in the section where it gives you the introduction and whatnot, it said that every *boltgun* armed model gets the special ammunition, but thanks for the help.

No, stormbolters are NOT bolters, and may not use the special ammo - which makes giving them to sternguard rather a waste of their points.

The profiles are different, they are different weapons.

But remember that if you use combi bolters, you DO get to use the SIA, as this is specifically stated in the entry for sternguard.
