There was no need for Primaris Marines either, and yet they exist.

They're making a super-heavy because they can and they believe people will buy it. What other reasons do they need?

I still feel like 40K will end up being like 30K is to 40K now, where you have the new Cartoonish models being released which some will dive on and gobble up because 'new and shiny' or just starting out in the hobby, and then you'll have a large middle ground where the gamers predominantly from 3rd to now sit who don't want Primaris marines or grav tanks or pseudo Terminators with power fists and bolters and rockets and everything on them and they'll try (and I say try) to maintain that aesthetic and army form in the future and eschew the new stuff, so you'll have 30K players, 40K Oldhammer players and 40K 8th players.

Oh god reading that it only kinda makes sense :-I

What is the source of this new super-heavy, aside from that one Youtube video where someone gobs on and on for a good while?

I would like to know this as well. And does the video even mention a source? This has not been re-affirmed or re-posted by reliable rumor sources. And when Atia does not repost it, like in this case, is is not going to happen.

A Superheavy tank is better than a Superheavy walker at least

A larger Baby Carrier / Centurion would be horrific.

No they don;t need it, its Marines so they get one - its not like anyone else needs anything.

Your making me afraid for the inevitable Tau/Deathwatch/Dark Eldar (lol jk) update. I couldn't stand to see a cartoony Gundam style of release for Tau. Ugh I swear if they go into the little stupid chibi gundams for inspiration I'm going to be super disappointed.

The funny thing though is the only thing I actually liked from the Primaris release is their tank and the new terminator things. Would they make a new primaris DW flyer? I mean how else will they work as DW if they can't actually use any of the existing transports. Kind of makes me worried they will overdo the primaris release for DW and stick way too much guns on everything especially stuff that should be looking more stealthy.

Made the Primaris Plunge. Was at a game shop for the first time in a while and saw them and next thing I knew I was out of money and had new shinies in my bag. I picked up the know no fear starter set. Personally I like them a lot better than the old fashioned shorty marines.

I'll probably add in a couple other squads and the new dread. I'm hesitant to buy any older models though, cuz who knows if they're gonna get replaced now with something more parmarisy. I wouldn't mind an all new rhino though. And I like the idea of a SM super heavy tank.

The Battle Barge Buffet Line

I don't think you'll regret picking them up but I'd probably say wait and see how the rest of the line looks. Personally, I love the normal primaris and like the reivers (just need a backpack swap on them IMO)... and the rest of the line goes downhill sharply from there. YMMV.

From what I've seen so far, I do like the new dread so I'll get at least one of them.. I like the reivers and the aggressors so I will pick them up sooner or later. Not sure about the repulsor though, I like some of it, but I think I'd like it better if it were a normal tank. I like the new apothecary too, but it seems way too pricey for just 1 mini. Mostly just going on looks though, haven't played a single game in like 4 years. Once I start playing I'll get a better idea of what I need to add next. This new shop I found has their warhammer days on sundays, so that's perfect for me.

While I'd love to get salty about the continued Marine wave of products/vehicles, the pragmatist in me sees only sales.

I'm genuinely of the belief that Imperium sales dwarf everything else GW does, particularly with Forgeworld. Now, that could become a chicken/egg discussion, but I bet even when a new Xenos product is released, the sales are probably 10% of the average from a large Imperium vehicle's release. Again, no info to back it up, but I have little doubt there is a huge slant. Sadly this kind of thing just pushes more of the same and it becomes a moot argument. It becomes a kind of self-feeding cycle. I just agree wholeheartedly that the FW goal is to move resin and make obscene money doing it. That means big stompy things with aquilas on them (or currently HH stuff which is probably a great seller).

I suppose I should be happy that at this point there is nothing Chaos or Eldar cool enough to warrant a look at Forgeworld. I friggin' hate resin, so that's a plus at the moment.

I really like the Reivers (full helmet only) but I feel a strong need to put a cape and pointy ears on one of them when kitted with the grappling-hook (which is what I consider an auto-include).

I have a ton of the old metal scouts so they are part of the "old" army and the newer big chunky plastic scouts will get the Reiver heads with the hair showing as the "Primaris Scouts". Suddenly the old and new lines can "make sense" for now.

It hurts so much though:

Black Templar needs to make some room for more "big" brothers. These SM kits are coming in fast and furious.

My first army is CSM and I have all kinds of new love there to work on. Oddly, the old plastic plague marines from 2nd edition with the metal plague marines (3rd-4th?) next to the new guys: it all looks ok.

I have Grey Knights (original which looks strange, the "newer" metal ones and the plastic kits) and I need to do some updates since Dakka Dreads I think cannot be done now. Already got the character from the Gilliman triad kit.

Deathwatch. Lots here too. Good army. Not sure what to do with them just yet other than possibly needing more bikes.

Imperial guard is trucking along great BUT I was stupid and I have way too many old Chimeras with the multi-lasers which are rather useless. Glad I decided one month or two to get built and painted 100 normal grunts (bless those cheap push together kits)... conscripts are a thing now? Orks have competition for the "tide".

Then there are Imperial Knights and Skitarii.

Too much going on and everything seems reasonably viable.
I shudder to think about our next Armageddon style game.

I love most Primaris release, the units I'm most lukewarm on are the Inceptors and the Reivers (socks and trainers, can't unsee).

I have to say the Redemptor was the biggest surprise. Seeing it in photos i was sort of onboard with the "beer belly" crowd, but seeing it IRL at the club... holy smokes, it's a beast, amazing detail, FW-level of poseability and such an imposing battlefield presence. It's probably my favourite Primaris release now.

Just started playing with the repulsor in theoryhammer - the thing is basically an anti-infantry land raider. I'm kind of tempted to get one now and forgo it's use as a transport

It's pretty much the best tank in the space marine codex. Which makes me real excited about a new super heavy.

Yeah I'll definitely be picking up the new dread soon. Hoping the arm weapons are easy to magnetize.. I like having all of the options all ready to go. I'll see about the tank. I'd rather get my current stuff built at least, and hopefully painted up. I usually end up going more troop-heavy with my armies. In my experience big expensive point sink models that I spend tons of time painting and I can't wait to play a whole game with usually end up being the first thing blown to bits.

Probably at no discount or even at a premium relative to the double Sprue boxes. No thanks, GW.

I do like that Sergeant, but not enough to pay GW prices for it.

I might get the Hellblaster one, but it will probably be cheaper to get the ten man boxes.

if I was gonna make a guess it'd be 40 or 50 dollars or so. so you're definatly better off buying the 10 man boxes if you want the troops. but if you just want 5 hellblasters to say round out a dark imperium squad then the combat squad box may be preferential.

I would rather get the 10-man box so I can make a squad of Plasma Incinerators and an Assault Plasma Incinerators. The Heavy version is worthless, but the Assault one is good in my book. Now that I found a better method of making Auxiliary Grenade Launchers, the Intercessors box doesn't off much for me.

It feels like a guilty pleasure and somewhat of an itch I'm looking to scratch with these new Primaris kits. (Even though I have a 1000pts Blood Angels army that's assembled and waiting for some paint...)

That said, funnily enough I've been most impressed by the quick follow up of the Ultramarines upgrade kit (the Primaris specific one). Has there been any news or rumours about other chapters getting the same treatment?

A Dark Angels one would be just the excuse I needed to succumb to the latest shiny syndrome!

Yeah especially when you can make a virtually identical one with the regular kit. I wouldn't be surprised if this guy and the three web exclusive DG were sculpts that GW originally planned for the DI box or easy to build sets.

yeah don't get me wrong, I'm generally willing to, tolerate, some of GW's pricing, but 50bucks for a unexceptional looking sergent?

Get a 40mm base (or 39mm it seems), buy a few third party upgrade bits, use any leftover marines from the 10 man boxes, and you've got enough sergeants and captains to last forever. Heck, you don't need upgrade bits, just paint them differently.
