Subject: Cold War Commander - Feedback?

Any of y'all played the game? What can you tell me about your experiences? I'm thinking about starting a modern-era Canadian army but they don't have their own modern-era list. Is it possible to build an army list from other nations' equipment for a proper list, or do I have to pick another nation's list and just use 'counts-as'?
What mini ranges would you recommend for use considering the era I'm aiming for?
Is it an easy system to learn and retain, or am I still going to find myself referring to the rulebook often for some of the more advanced stuff?
Experienced feedback on the game world be great. It looks really cool and the battle reports I've read on other sites/blogs seem like it's a really enjoyable ruleset but I'm not wanting to get into something that I might not enjoy due to complexity, rules constraints, unappealing gameplay, etc...

Been playing CWC and BKC, plus the sci-fi version since they came out. Superb system.
They are based on Warmaster and work exceptionally well. They give a really fast flowing game, with the right period feel and they are always exciting games. After a few games you wont be looking up rules.
We tend to play scenarios with them but they have a full points system too.
Very easy to get to grips with, but endless nuances as you will find as you play the game.
They are also supported by their own forum where the author happily answers all queries.
The book contains all the army lists, for Canadians you will use the NATO list and you can build a proper Canadian Force out with that.
One of my favourite ever sets of rules - Brilliant.
I use 6mm (1.300th) for my armies...
Various companies make them...
Heriocs & Ros
Grendel
Skytrex
Or if you go for 1/285th you can use the stunning GHQ range.
GHQ is alot more expensive... While the Heriocs & Ros for example are around .50p each.
If you want a larger scale, then Minifigs do 10mm stuff and QRF does 15mm Moderns.
Personally I find it looks best in 6mm.

Thanks, I did already sign up with QRF, apparently Geoff has Modern Canadians on his to-do list, but no idea when that'll happen. I was thinking of going 15mm, as that seems to be what most of the pre-made terrain is in (And I'm certainly not -making- more, already do that for 40K ). Isn't FoW 15mm? That seems to be a pretty good scale to me. The rules sounded pretty solid TBH, I just want some first-hand accounts. Thanks for that, it's really helpful. I'm thinking I'll submit an order for a rulebook tonight. Anything else I should be thinking about? Other than special weapons such as the Carl Gustav, will it matter what the minis are equipped with? I'm probably going to use US infantry as the M16A2 w/ACOG Scope looks an awful lot like the C7 w/ElCan C79. The Tac Vests and Helmets are wrong, but at 15mm I don't think that's going to be all that obvious EDIT: Not many people playing it seems hm? Was hoping for some more input and feedback on the game.

Superb rules set, especially with how it deals with coomand and control. It is great how you can quickly reinforce a flank but the rules can be just a frugal when you need to pull off a simple movement and botch your command roll.
Perhaps my only gripe about the rules is that at times it favors an unrealistic massing of firepower on a target just to get the hits to eliminate a stand as opposed to favoring a more realistic form of shooting. Airpower is devastating when employed and perhaps the great equalizer in the game are the ATGW's which can really mess with opposing armor.
As for your army list, the ones in the book are just simple lists. If you want a more modern Canadian list than what is in the book just use the Leo 2 rules for their tanks and such.

Yea I was reading "Tim's Blog", and there was a battle between a Canadian Airborne Regiment and a Soviet Motorized Company.
Soviets traffic jammed trying to roll onto the table several times due to bad command rolls
