Loving the burned heretic at the flamer SoB feet. It looks very authentic. That Trygon looks amazing, great work.

Quick update. Based the Trygon, he’s off to the YTD shelf. Put the gravel down on the pengine and two sisters. They will need the second seal coat on the rocks, but almost there. Putting more layers down on the repential. Getting there.

Edit:
Just put the glue down on the finished SoB stuff. Once that dries they are off to the YTD shelf and will be added to the tally.

Edit 2:
50 points for the Pengine? That’s a lot of irritation for not a lot of army. Also, that should push me to 100 models done this month, assuming I did my math right and didn’t forget something. This year’s YTD recap is going to be a fun one.

Edit 3:
Doublechecked math, Snakey is 101.

Quick update; I’ll try to get more later.

Played a game this weekend w/ The Boy. I have pics and will try to write up what happened, although as games go it was fairly predictable. Interesting from a crusade POV as we both botched a number of the post game wound checks.

The Primaris Techmarine he got me for my birthday showed up, I built it in the early morning while he was sleeping in, and even had weather mediocre enough to prime. So he might see action sometime sooner then next summer. I like the way he looks, and think his rules are pretty good these days. Decent motivation to get him up and running.

Prices leaked for the big boxes. The Tyranid one look to be get all the little gribblies for free with the purchase of the big bugs. As they were on my to-buy list anyway, why not? The only question is do I wait and try to find it on amazon at a discount, or just suck it up and support my FLGS? Saving money is good, but so is supporting local business. I suspect I’ll just grab it local. But might be patient and grab things like the gladiator and assault intercessors online.

Working on building the sniper intercessors. Trying to figure out a way to make them stand out a bit more over the regular ones. The difference between scopes and mags is very subtle to table-top distance IDs. Looking at head options right now, or sticking targeters/antenna on the backpacks.

Edit:

Not going to do the write up after all. Here is the start pic. Pretty much holding objective, with a murderfest midfield. Victory Ultras.

I hear ya on the sniper intercessors, a buddy of mine has some and while the first three look great anything after that get real repetitive from a modelling perspective. I also have a hard time seeing the difference between the sniper and the las-fusil (and what is up with that name? fusil is french for gun so they gave primaris las-guns?). Looking forward to seeing how you do these up.

Crusade is all I've been playing lately and it's become a growing interest of mine to see how some peoples forces have been evolving over the fights. Excited to see how yours is shaping up.

Sorry, not the actual snipers, but the intercessors with the heavy single shot version.

I do need to get around to painting my actual snipers.

I’ll try to do a unit write up on my crusade list next time I have a block of time.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Right now my roster is 63/70 supply used, 3 RP in the bank.

Here is the 50 PL crusade list I’m running with.

Captain Helios 6PL, +3CrP, 16xp
Captain, JP, TH/SS. Champion of Humanity WL trait. Shield Eternal, Adamantine Cuirass. Swift and Agile, Lost Leg
I started with the WL trait and the CM upgrade. When the new codex dropped, I had to give up the CM. He got swift and agile after the first battle. I wanted more flex, and not more raw power. Now I need more raw power, as his opposite number is a wrecking ball to be wary off. Last game he leveled up, and I took the new +1 W/T crusade relic, and upgraded his SS by spending another requisition point. Unfortunatly, he lost a leg, which cancels out the swift and agile. If he picks up another scar he goes in the box. Next upgrade will probably be a frenzon injector.

Lt. Caedes Vir. 5PL +3CrP, 13xp
Primaris Lt., Volkite pistol, MW power sword, SS. WL:Adept of the Codex, The Vox Esperitum. Heroic Constituion (+1W)
While the captain is off running around smashing things in a reckless frenzy, this by-the-book Lt. keeps the force running smoothly. The 9” aura is very nice, and he’s no slouch in combat. While not the murder machine the captain is, he’s racked up a few kills. He was re-equipped when I finished painting the indominus model.

Squad Caltor. 5PL, +2CrP, 17xp
5 man Intercessor squad, Bolt Rifles, AGL, powerfist. Marksmen honours (+1BS) Cool Headed (RR Morale, 5+ overwatch)
Newcomers to the roster, these guys have racked up a lot of XP fast. I’ve been taking the Know No Fear agenda, and in more casual games where you are slowly whittled down, you end up making a lot of those checks.

Predator 8PL, +2CrP, 16xp
Auto/Las, SB, HKM. AP rounds for the AC (-1 AP) Elite Crew (RR1TH)
The pred has been the backbone of my AV firepower from the start. I upgraded the AC first due to my main opponent being Salamanders. He ignores the AP-1, so needed more punch to get through the armor on all turns but the first. Just picked up elite crew last game, as I no longer gat captain RRs in the new book.

Infiltrators 6PL +1CrP, 14xp
5 men, Helix Adept Veteran Warriors (RR1TH)
Another newer addition who has rocketed up in XP. I gave them the re-rolls, rather then the +1BS because they can fish better for 6’s and are more likely to be away from the captain. They are getting quite the grudge against my son’s reivers. I deploy these guys on a flank objective, he drops the terror troops down to take it away.

3rd Co, 5th Squad, Squad Icarus. 10PL, +2CrP, 22xp
10 Man Tac MM/M, C-Melta/Fist sarge. Marksment honours, Cool Headed
These guys got reequipped to full melta with the new book. I needed the punch. Between that and doubling their wounds, these guys got mean. Again, the constant morale checks make for a lot of XP, although a bit riskier with a 10 man squad.

Rhino 4PL, -CrP, 3xp
Rhino, 2xSB
It’s a box. It moves the tacs around. It was blown up once and lost some XP.

Land Speeder 6PL, -CrP, 12xp
LS Typhoon. TML/HB Improved Shielding, Vox Coms Destroyed.
It’s zippy, it’s scrappy, it’s my second best ranged AV. Occasionally scores stuff, not many kills, but a lot of assists. Last game got its comms blown out, so it can no longer benefit from auras. I would be more concerned about that before the new codex. Now I’m glad it’s a CrP less to field. If I get the techmarine painted, I might fix this. Until then they are giving recon reports with gestures and shouting.

----

On the roster, but not the active list:

Squad Akillan 4PL, -CrP, 5xp
5 man scouts, 4 snipers, HB, cloaks.
Useless or hot garbage? You make the call. OK, they are not that bad, but they are not troops, which is what I needed them for. And not getting the extra wounds makes them pale in comparison to their peers. Not taking them off the rolls, but unlikely to see the table any time soon.

Killteam Solari 6PL, +1CrP, 4xp
5 Man Veteran Intercessors, AGL, Power Sword, Battle Tested (ObSec, actions&shoot)
These guys got their bonus trait as a mission reward, and are not yet leveled up to get one normally. I took it so I could do the actions and shoot, as they were ObSec troops when I earned it. With the new book, they are now elite. These guys are on the sidelines for now, but I’ll get back to them. I just need troops more then a few extra bodies. They did serve well when I had them in the list.

Brothers Praenon and Tarilis 3PL -CrP, 3xp
Victrix Honour Guard.
These guys added a little chop to the list. Their main claim to fame is not being useless, and being 3 PL to help even out point levels. We might see them again.

To be fair, I also celebrate Thanksgiving on the right day. I’m big on food based holidays, and giving thanks is generally a good thing to do. Plus I think it’s better than Columbus Day.

They are going to get contrast for the skin. As it’s harder to do touch ups with contrast/washes, I like to do the traditional brush work first, so I don’t need to worry about getting slop on the contrast bits.

Ah I see that makes total sense. I agree it is tough to touch up contrast paints without redoing a large area, it's also tougher in my opinion, to apply contrast paints around finished areas since they seem to be more "runny" than traditional paints. Having said that the touch up after your contrast leaks somehwere it shouldn't have usually is very manageable. I very much look forward to seeing your results as I'm about to start my Repentia very soon, they're next up in queue after my current three models are finished.

Now there's some quality thinking right there! Just celebrate all the food based holidays and be well fed year round. I like your style!

So his captain is doing some sort of ritual. Not sure exactly what, but it’s probably heretical, so I need to put a stop to it. And while I’m at it, try to score 2 objectives a turn, and more than him.

He goes first, puts some wounds on my pred, does some chanting. Mostly holding back at the ritual site.

I move up, shoot his razor a little, and gut and clean the forward squad he deployed in the ruins to try to delay me.

Turn two he puts more wounds on the pred, and shoots up my intercessor squad and rhino a bit. Drops his Lt. down to support his guys on the relic.

I deploy out of the rhino, jump my captain forward and start the carnage. Kill his dread and razor, and our captains each slap half the wounds off of each other.

Turn 3 he drops the reivers down to help out the ritual site, plinks the last wound off the pred, and in general causes a lot of mutual death in the CC phase. I take down both his characters, but pay a heavy toll.

I shoot him up on my turn, and the remenents of my forces stagger away from the ritual and start looking at objectives. With the loss of my pred, I can only hold one of my backfield ones, and need to take one from him. He’s been scoring two a turn all game to this point, and a couple turns of chanting. I need to catch up. I was hoping to charge up the hill and use that movement to contest that objective, but flubbed all the checks.

Turn 4 he does not have a lot left, He mostly just hunkers down and shoots. I finish taking the hill, moving my speeder over to secure the objective while my troops clean up.

(no pic)

His turn 5 there is not a lot he can do. If things line up just right, he can pull a win, but the points are swinging in my favor. All he has is the intercessors left in the backfield. He charges up and kills my speeder, and puts a obsec boot on that objective, but left the other one open.

My turn my rhino advances far enough to take it, and I storm the hill and put down the last of his troops. Victory Ultras, but a close match.

As I write this, I think we’ve been screwing up objectives for most of our games. Scoring them at the end of the turn, not the end of the command phase. At least we’ve been consistant.

Nice Rep. I enjoyed reading your Crusade roster too. I will try to get some 'all together' pics of mine soon I think. We may start playing some games too(!) but it will have to be via TTS. This is a bit of a joke after painting a lot of stuff for this, I think there's 5-6 fresh paint units in 60 PL.

Good luck on the win, crush his dreams, COURAGE AND HONOUR!

Great report Nev. I always love close games like these. Both of my last two games have been so close they came down to getting a single kill to win or lose the game on bottom of T5 in the first then making a 6" advance to snag the relic for the win in my second game, again bottom of T5. Got the kill in my first game but only made a 5" advance in my second so lost. Having matches that can go either way the whole game is always more fun and overall I say that's a good indicator of the general health of the game since it's such a far cry from the T1 and T2 blowouts that was my 7th edition experience.

Games vs. The Boy would be a lot closer if he studied the rules more. I think he’s fielding a stronger list and has the better CT for mirror matches, but sometimes forgets all the assets available to him. Stratagems are a big one, but even things like advancing. A lot of times getting d6” downfield is better then 5 long range bolter shots.

Did the reds last night and a cleanup pass this morning. Next step is the brown wash for the skin/golds.

It’s come to my attention that the mistress does not have any purity seals. You would think that a lady in he role would have a few. Maybe her charges are rubbing off on her.

Edit:
Put down the flesh wash. They look a lot closer to done now.

Also in the news, I pre-orderd the big box-o-Nids yesterday. Not sure if I’m going to use creative accounting on it for my paint more then I buy goals. I did get some Amazon gift cards for my birthday, but ordered it at the local store. But if I use that gift card balance for say, Christmas shopping for others, and handwave what was actually spent where, I could cover it. Or enough of it I’m willing to accept it.

Almost done. Mistress needs 2 spots cleaned up and a highlight pass with white. And I just realized I forgot to gloss the seals on all the repentia, so they need another round. Almost there.

Edit:
Touchups, seals, highlights done. Mistress off the handle and base is black. Next stop glue and rubble. Hopefully do that on my next break. Will get glamor shots tonight for the contest.

Next up is the seraphim. Them and the canoness are the last of the SoB.

Calling the gals done. Still need the seal coat of glue on their bases; they shed a few rocks during the photo shoot.

The red also helps them go faster. Kinda important for a melee unit.

Not my force, per-say. Painting up this box for a friend. Which if I’m on track I will be able to deliver at the end of the year. Will be a little sad to see the girls go, but it will be nice to have more time in my schedule for my own stuff.

Here is where we stand:

With the angels on deck getting paint.

In hindsight I should have left the jump packs off. Not only do they block large chunks of the back/shoulders, but the flight stems also get in the way of the legs and robes. I think I’m going to do all the sloppy basecoats with the tape on, but remove it for the finishing steps and just try not to get any paint on the clear plastic. Or just gently scrape it off if I do.

Still need to find time for the canoness. I’m going to try to push these ladies across the bench ASAP. We’ll see how that goes.

Well you've got a very lucky friend who will have an awesome new SoB force to play with very soon.

I feel ya on the seraphim packs. I glued mine on already too but I left them off the flight stands. Good news it I don't have to worry about the stand but now I don't really have a great way to hold the model while painting it.

I have a similar dilemma with my inceptors, I built them all but kept the flight stands off, but I can see getting around their jump packs and their inset heads being an issue.

Is it possible to get the jump packs off again? It really is easier to paint them without them. I learned that the hard way after my Celestine & buddies disaster in 2019
And your friend can be very happy with his box set and hopefully you can than blast his models from the battlefield in due time

It’s always a trade-off working in parts. I forget what my reasoning here was for just glueing everything. It might have been the lack of place to hold the bits separate, or the fact that tiny bits get scattered around when I spray prime. or easily lost. Unfortunately I use plastic glue, so the packs should be solidly attached.

I should really have my friend drag out everything I painted for him and snap a pic. It should be quite the impressive collection. His army is bigger then just what I did, as he picked up some on e-bay and had others paint some units. I think I still have a WIP checklist on a scrap of paper somewhere, and don’t think that covers everything I did, and was still a huge army worth. We haven't played a game in years unfortunately. The way GW has jerked him around with his army rules has been rough, so his interest in 40k has not been as constant as mine, and life and heath issues complicate things. Hopefully once things settle down we can get one in.

No painting progress to report. Once The Boy wakes up we should get a game in today. In theory my pre-order for the nid box should be in, as IIRC today is the release day, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it down to the store over the weekend, and they are closed mon/tue. I should probably get cracking on some of my other build projects to clear the decks.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. Relax and stay safe.

I really do. After using one I found it hard to go back to just gripping the base. And I tend to batch paint. I had 2, picked up the 5 pack, and gave 2 to The Boy. So I’m up to 5 normal ones and one of the XL large ones.

And sometimes wish I had more, but that’s a bit crazy. But sometimes I’m working on a 5 man squad, and want to have another project on the side.

Those painting handles certainly are handy. I only have one but I certainly see the appeal for more. I've seen the new design they have too, the one with the thin neck? Winder why they changed it to be like that, not sure I see the advantage over the original design.

I’m guessing the narrower neck will allow you to spin it around with less effort, and maybe a better grip holding in in your palm. That’s just me guessing. I’ve got no plans on picking up more.
