I'll try to give as much description as possible.

I was speaking to an employee at a Nord's Games one day while he was painting some models. They were pewter Civil War miniatures. They looked to be about the same scale as Warhammer, but they may have been a bit smaller. I saw a small rank of guys standing to shoot and others in a prone shooting position. He was telling me all about the game and I became very interested, but I can't remember the name of the game. Unfortunately, the store has shutdown since. He kept telling me he was using Privateer Press paints, though I'm not sure if that would make a difference. I tried to see if PP makes Civil War minis, but I didn't have any luck. The only other information I have is that the employee said the models are cheaper than Warhammer models, but that's almost every other miniature range lol. Sorry for being so vague, but that's all the information I have.

Well the miniatures, if plastic, were likely to be from the Perry Miniatures ACW range.

If they were metal, then there are many, many companies that make metal figures for the ACW... Perrys, Old Glory, Redoubt, Dixons, Foundry to name but a few.

As for rules... Well I own seven sets of rules for ACW and I can think of another six that I dont have. There could be literally hundreds of ACW wargame rules out there!

Most popular at the moment are Blackpowder by Warlord Games (written by Rick Priestley) with Johnny Reb III, Guns At Gettysburg, Fir & Fury and several others all with their own followers.

I play Blackpowder for ACW and also Guns At Gettysburg when the armies are smaller.

Just working on my Confederate Zouaves to finish off my ACW army... Got the new Perry plastic Zouaves yesterday and they are amazing figures.

One of our ACW games to give you some eye candy...

Now that you say Perry Minis I remember him talking about the Perry Brothers. It's definitely from them. Thanks!
