Greetings all
When Ketera announced the date of Platinum Devil III, I discovered that fortuitously the weekend was free. Not so fortuitously, having not played
40K for some time, my only armies were of the hand weapon and shield variety. That's not to say that warpstone powered weapons wouldn't wreak havoc in the 41st Millenium, but I was certain eyebrows would be raised in if I turned up with my Skaven in May
So that age old problem of which army to take surfaced once more. Time is the key factor, so horde armies were definitely out. I suspected having read the last Platinum Devil reports, that Space Marines of various colours and factions would be a popular choice and as I wanted to add some variety, I didn't focus on
MEQ too much. I briefly flirted with Daemons and even bought the Codex, but couldn't really get excited about collecting them. So as I suspected I would, I had basically led myself to Eldar. They have long been my xenos of choice since 2nd Edition and indeed were my very first
40K army. The only question was which flavour of of Eldar to go for. Like many people, I had been wowed by the recent Dark Eldar release, but I didn't think my painting ability would do the models justice. In truth, I was feeling a wave of nostalgia. My original Biel-Tann force was lost in a loft clear out when I was at university and I thought it would be fun to revisit them for this occasion. Competitiveness is not really my focus and I was never very good at finding the optimal build for an army anyway. What I want to put down on the table at PDIII is an army that looks presentable and has a lot of variety.
I've decided to kick off with Dire Avengers. A
WIP shot is shown below. I made the choice to leave the heads off, but I'm regretting that now as it's getting a bit fiddly. Think I'll avoid that approach in future.
