my friend and i suffer slightly from a lack of scenery when playing 40k, so i thought i would try making a bit for us to game with. Pretty new to making scenery, the exception being a few buildings made anour 15-20 years ago so i thought i would drop some pick in for the nice folks here at Dakka to peruse and offer any C&C on

Are those sprue bricks?

They look good whatever they are, perhaps more rubble and heaps needed seeing as there's so many bricks missing.

nah i got the bricks from amazon, its a pack of pegasus hobbies bricks

i got the last packet from the seller, used just over half there.

more rubble sounds like a great idea but i dont wanna use to much of whats remaining of these ickle bricks as i can probs get another piece out of whats left. i could just make a smaller corner i suppose thought and have spare for rubble for both, i got some thinking to do there .

Seeing as I thought they were snipped up sprues you could just use some of them to make the rubble, they might be better for making them look broken too rather than breaking up your ready made ones.

yeah you set me thinking, while i was at work i was thinking about rounding some sprue sections to make some scaffold poles or something to add to the rubble

Hmm, how much does a bag of bricks set one back nowadays?

They need some Mortar Boy! Though they have some nice Stretcher bond i think you need to do some Air-dry clay 'Pointing'.

I like this piece as a base piece. I like that you didn't add a bunch of rubble to the base. A little rubble can add some detail, but too often people use so much in the interest of 'realism' that you can't set any models on it! I like that you're keeping your terrain primarily for game purposes. That being said, I have an observation (not necessarily positive or negative) about the second terrain piece. I'm a big fan of terrain that can be used by models in multiple ways. I prefer my terrain to be able to provide a makeshift (or intentional) firepoint, to both obscure and completely block LOS, and to have multiple ways for models to intereact with it (such as climbing on, walking through, hiding behind). While your second wall looks great (I especially like the graffiti) I notice that it is really only usable in one way. The only thing it does is block LOS. As long as you are okay with it only being single purpose, then more power to you, and no judgements from this end. Either way, it's a great piece. I look forward to seeing more from you.

yes jimsolo, i totally agree i think it wouldnt bt to hard to add a second floor, the firepoint i feel would come out horribly wrong on this piece, the plastic which i covered in cork is "very" rigid and i fear it would crack horribly if i tryed to cut it, obviously it would be possible, i just didnt wanna risk it and decided to just keep this piece as a run to for cover, a second floor may well be added though maybe even added just the right height to allow vision over the top of the wall.

I hadn't thought of that, but adding a makeshift scaffolding to the interior would be sweet! You said it's made of cork? Did you make it yourself? (If so, how?) If this is a piece of something else, what? In short, could you tell us where this came from?

Your paint splattered G15 looks just like mine! I like the scenery you're making although with the red bricks I would only go as high as head of the guardsmen so it doesn't look like a jenga tower plus they still get the cover saves.

Thanks for the comments all
@jimsolo, i found a plastic "thing" like a corner from some packaging (can be seen on the interior base) but it is really rigid and i fear cutting it would result in cracking, splitting, snapping.
so i covered it both sides in some sticky back cork sheet, i think its used for resurfacing cork notice boards, its great stuff and pretty cheap about 1 metre by 0.5 metre 1mm thick and cost £2:99 about $5 im guessing, bought it for basing stuff, i will get a picture of it and make a seperate post to inform folks of the stuff
