as the post says, who and why. My favorite will have to be Daniel Tosh, his delivery is great and he just a shock value thats priceless. Some of his jokes are fairly wrong in the sense that he says some very messed up things, but thats the comedy i like.
Bo Burnham comes in a close second.
Imperial Crusaders: 7,500 points
“Brothers, what we do on the battlefield is not just for our chapter but, for the entire Imperium. Every Xenos that falls by our hands will be a testament to our unwavering duty to the Emperor. Every heretic that is crushed under our feet will be a testament to our undying loyalty to the citizens of Imperial Space. We will baptize ourselves in fire and emerge as the most steadfast defenders of humanity.” - qoute from my own homegrown chapter

Who's the comic who died and did the joke about making a show about hunting and killing _INSERT CELEBRITY_?
Bill Hicks.
Automatically Appended Next Post: OP: I appreciate Daniel Tosh's shock value non-sequitors and his clever "meta" about
what kinds of jokes he's using and why he's doing them, but he comes across
as something of a prick (which is intentional I'm sure). I laugh, but I don't want
to really listen to him joke all that long.
It's one of those weird vibes.

Mine would be Richard Pryor, Daniel Tosh, and there was one other, but I can't remember him. He was a black comic that did a few jokes about African Bees, and a few others that were just really funny, and a few I can relate to.

Number one? Too easy, The Big Yin. (if you don't know who that is, you haven't lived!)
Close second: Eddie Izzard.
Others I like:
Steve Hughes
Rich Hall
Robin Williams
George Carlin
Bill Bailey
Dara Ó Briain
Najib Amhali (dutch)
Hans teeuwen (dutch)
Theo Maassen (dutch)
My favorites include: Patton Oswalt George Carlin (Class Clown era mostly, but it's all good) Dennis Miller (early stand up from the 80's is very good) Bill Hicks (an aquired taste, but quite rewarding) Chris Rock
I enjoy nearly any comic though, I'm just a fan of stand up in general.

Not a big fan of most of the new/younger comedians, they tend to get find a schtick and hold on to it for dear life.
I'm not challenging your prefereces, but I would point out that Wright might be one of the shtickiest comics out there, and Cosby had, if not a shtick, a very strong persona.
I think earlier comics were more generally accessible (who was offended by Newheart, and the man was hilarious), while newer comics tend to focus more on niches. Patton Oswalt is hilarious if you're a 20-30 year old guy, but I can't see a lot of people from different experiences really enjoying his work.

Jimmy Carr, Frankie Boyle and Rhod Gilbert, In that order. Ross Noble is pretty funny too though. Generally I don't find American comedians funny, but if anyone can suggest someone good I'd be more than happy to check them out
Nah, he was sorta funny at the start, but as his career has gone on it's bluntly apparent his only talent is trollin folks and in general I don't find that funny, or not in the long term anyways. It's the same thing again and again, and as folks have become bored with his lack of actual talent, he's got nastier and nastier to try and make up for it.
Actual comedians I like.
Billy Connolly. Probably my fave overall.
Also, the following stand out as comedians I really like,
Lee Evans
Richard Pryor
Michael McIntyre
Eddie Izzard
Bill Bailey
Russell Howard
Jack Dee
Al Murray
Rhod Gilbert
Shappi Khorsandi
Jeff Foxworthy
Noel Fielding
Robin Williams
"That's not an Ork, its a girl.." - Last words of High General Daran Ul'tharem, battle of Ursha VII.
Two White Horses (Ipswich Town and Denver Broncos Supporter)
Charlie Murphy. I loved it when he got booed at Grambling State. After Murphy was booed, he asked for the check drops it and the mic on the ground, and says, “F— y’all” and walked off the stage. Too bad the funniest part wasn't the act...
I like a few comics. People like Lewis Black due to how cynical he is. Katt Willams hes just plain fun to watch dis right here. then you have people like Steven Lynch and John Lajoi funny songs with solid lyrics.
Audio versions of Monty Python (I know this isn't one comedian, but seriously, while growing up this was the bee's knee's)
George Carlin
Jeff Foxworthy
Bill Cosby
Dave Chapelle
Redd Foxx
Robin Williams
Richard Pryor
Eddie Izzard
MITCH HEDBERG! one of THE best comedians I have ever heard!

Chowderhead - God no. If I said Pirates Honor, I would have had to kill him whether he won or lost.
Eddie Murphy was extreamly funny,in both his stand up and his films..but considering he hasn't really done a movie worth watching since "Life",I don't know how eager I'd be to see his return to stand up.

Patton Oswalt is great.
My current favorite has to be Katt Williams. Possibly the filthiest mouth in comedy but so funny and spot on when calls people out.
And on the opposite side, I just saw Bill Cosby : Himself yesterday and was laughing the whole show. Sometimes it is sad to see that no comic can be clean and funny these days.
