proper 28mm scale WWII, not this rubbish 15mm stuff, used with disposable heroes rules (a good WWII system, not like flames of warhammerepic40k)

platoon command

squads 1 and 2

Tiger tank (from die waffenkammer)

ME110 (1:72 airfix)

epic and 40k rules + history does not a good rule system make, its unrealistic and heavily reliant on specific unit types, and doesn't fully show the dangers and difficulty of proper war back in that period
Popsicle wrote:What are the Disposable Hero rules like?

simple, but detailed, and its a D10 sytem, which is automatically superior to D6 for allowing more randomness
tanks are dangerous but the limited vision and awareness makes finding enemy tanks with them difficult, you can't just point and shoot and thats it, penetrating tanks is more realistic, as are the armour arcs
and infantry NEED cover to survive, you don't just get armour saves all the time even when wearing no armour, if you go out in the open and somebody opens up 8 dice from an MG42, your gonna take allot of deaths and probably run away

its also allot cheaper since its only done by a bloke in his house with source material, not a group of blokes who use wikipedia
plus its 28mm, which is superior and cheaper than FOW in the long run

I really like those models! Bigger is better for ww2 isn't it? The Tiger is lacking a few german crosses on the sides of the tank, and needs more muck on the tracks. Is the army based on the african front judging by the colour?

bigger is better for everything
Tyranid Horde wrote:The Tiger is lacking a few german crosses on the sides of the tank, and needs more muck on the tracks.

actually german tanks rarely had crosses painted on them, the large majority had numbers and that was it, some had crosses but the crosses would be in weird places, or s small as to see no point in having them, but it was mostly captured vehicles that have crosses plastered all over them.
and everything needs more muck, but I'm too lazy, when I got the model I built and painted it on the same day in excitement, so muck never crossed my mind
Tyranid Horde wrote:Is the army based on the african front judging by the colour?

its actually based off an incorrect picture from an osprey book for a uniform from the Ruhr, which is shown as being that shade of brown, but was actually more likely a mediterranean brown as only second class units would of had brown of that shade (spanish, french or russians in german service for example), but I liked the darker brown as it was different, but doesn't look too far fetched

All of the tiger 1's actually had the crosses on the sides of the vehicles.

also in all my 10+ WWII history books the large majority of pictures do show german tanks including tigers without crosses, all the way from early and especially in late

Nice. Those came out really well. I applaud your reasoning for choosing the color (too many sticklers in the historical community). I myself have painted a number of my Germans strait-up grey. Not realistic but everyone seems to think Germans wore plain grey so I went for it!

I used to do plain grey myself, and probably will again when I do the 12 panzer SS Hitlerjugend, though I wanna use army painters wolf grey for Fallshrimjagers, or maybe for Hitlers personel SS guard like in COD world at war, just cus it looks menacing, add to that king tigers and jadgtigers as well in that dark colour, not very accurate, but menacing for such a unit.

The pictures of the early production Tiger 1s that I have all have the german crosses on the side near the rear of the tank. Sorry, I should have defined the Tigers to early production. Some Tiger 1s had a slate grey colour scheme on the russian front during 1943.

They are really nicely done.

Bolt Action models and the Disposable heros rules are something that I am interested in, so can I ask would the scale size for armour be 1:76? As I see you have an airfix ME110. Would this armour scale work for tanks, artillery pieces as well as aircraft?

1/76 would be tiny. There is debate about whether 1/56 or 1/50th scale is better (I'm a 1/50th man myself) but anything from 1/56 (a little small) to 1/48 (a little big) wouldn't be too innapropriate.

This is some great work! Inspires me to want to try my hand at historical type models.

Thanks
The scaling chart I found seemed off. Hence the asking

early production ones did have crosses yes, some still didn't though, I suppose it all depends on if the crew can be bothered to paint them on or have the time to do it, once you get to mid or late (which is when this unit is based with equipment picked up from anywhere and any period) crosses pretty much vanished, either due to it being pointless, fading away or just getting covered in paint from camo.

as has been answered this tank from die waffenkammer is 1/56th, which works very well with warlord games 28mm soldiers and anti tank guns, the plane is 1:72 as we here find it better, bigger range and smaller scale isn't an issue for something flying a mile or so in the sky.

Been contemplating purchasing a set of the German Infantry from Warlord Games for awhile now, but after seeing your pictures topside - it's made my mind up.

Got some in the post!

Always been fascinated by a WW2 Miniatures game, but I just didn't "feel" it with FoW, if you understand what I mean. Plus, 28mm is an added bonus.

Thank you for making the decision for me, Stella!
