Just a WIP of course; it's these three plus three evil cultist dudes and a scholarly looking character with a handgun.

I'm currently doing scenic shots of things for another project, and last night I took the opportunity to make an "army shot" of my Sharp Practice dudes:

See, I also did that thing where you doctor out the bases. I'm not quite sure if I like it or not. Last week I got the latest issue of WSS magazine, and I noticed that pictures in there to a very large degree have that now. Maybe it was just an anomaly or it's becoming more and more the norm for such promo shots. What do you think?

Greetings, friends.

Here's the Nova Aetas figures finished! Big figures, those. 32mm. Well, the dudes in the back are even larger of course.

[

Hope y'all like'em. Also: Have a great weekend. What are we all up to? I'm going to clean the flat! Wahey! Also trying to learn the ropes on that incredibly disheartening video game called Squad.

Cheers! Usually the standing order is "paint'em as on the unit card, but if you got a better idea then go with that". Usually I stick to the card design, on the robed dudes I went a bit bold and switched the original black robes design for red. Just looks so much better on the table, I thought. Same on the characters. The illustrations on their cards are much more drab and ...well, brown-ish/black overall, because illustrators often want to convey "mood". Which is something that's harder to rely on as the miniatures paintmonkey of course. Not to mention the fact that miniatures are just that, so harder to see in general. So I usually go with the colour scheme, but turn up colour and contrast a bit. But on those I went more colourful. Can't beat a nice red. And they still look sinister and evil.

Right-o, befitting current going-ons I'm getting started on another set of Heroquest figures!

All still WIP, but getting there. Eventually. I hope. Hope you like them so far!

Heyhey, last night I put a test game of Song of Drums and Shakos on the table.

Tyrol, 1809. It's autumn, so we'll just quickly get these supplies and orders to the rebels before winter hits. You never know with weather in the mountains, and once it's winter it'll stay winter for a long time. For now we got nice weather. Light escort duty. Easy-peasy, what could go wrong.

(don't mind the driver's weird attire. Those civilians will wear the most ridiculous things ).

Okay, back to stuff I'm actually supposed to do in terms of painting. Here's another shot of the current state of the new Heroquest set I'm currently working on:

So the mean greenies are done now, as is the Elf (bar for his sword) and the Dwarf. What's next? I think I'll see that I get some more characters done, then the Chaos Warriors. Then I think I'll do the furniture and, as is tradition, save the gargoyle and warlock for last.

Hope you like'em so far!

That's not too bad - I've seen a couple of painters get pigeon-holed a little into painting the same game over and over. I lost track of how many Kingdom Death sets one guy worked on, for example.

Yeah, it's its own catalyst. Peeps see you post this and that, they want you to do this and that naturally. Haven't painted a single Kingdom Death thing yet (which is why I don't have that much experience in painting penises ,but I hope to catch up some day), but I hope to some time. I'm very happy to paint as diverse stuff as I do. Many peeps seem to limit themselves to 'the broad thing' or certain things. I do it all. Very glad about it too. I mean painting Space Marines is fun and easy, but I enjoy doing a variety of stuff.

A thing I painted a lot of was Space Hulk (2009/14). But not all that much. Maybe 3 full sets, plus a bunch of extra Genestealers and Marines. Dreadfleet I painted three times. That was cool.

Oh Sigur... your battle report brings back memories of my Austrian grandmother. Gemütlichkeit is a word I remember, but I can't for the life of me remember the context now (it has been well over 35 years).

Wonderful report by-the-way.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks very much. Yeah, "Gemutlichkeit" is one of these buzzwords they used in the 70s and 80s to draw in tourists to any place in Southern Germany, Austria and probably Switzerland too.

Heyhey, it's been a while, but here's another update:

I added the Chaos Warriors now, the rest of the heroes, and the Warlock. Next (diverging from my projections): Gargoyle. After that I'll do the furniture. Sadly I only got the plastic parts for those, so they won't be as nice looking in my photos this time I'm afraid.

Anyway, if you wanna see finished furniture, just scroll up. That's the convenient thing about this thread. Hope you like the new figures!

On the side (apart from the other thing I did on the side), I hastily painted a less lively bunch:

They're mostly plastic Zombie Vixens by Wargames Factory. A set I'm rather fond of (as I am of most of WGF's later sets). I get what they were going for with the oversexualization and all, because Zombie gaming, so I think, needs something to break up 'realism', so it doesn't get too icky. So this is ONE way to do that, I suppose. Still, I gave the lady in the front a green sweater made of green stuff, and the blue-haired lady behind her a full top rather than a low-cut belly-free thing. The lifeguard in the left originally wears a string bikini, which I just painted as a full bathing suit. Stuff like that.

Yup, it's October, I'm basically all on my own when it comes to wargaming this year, so I slipped back into this idea of modern zombie gaming. Lost my faith in Last Days, and also wanted to go for something more humans vs. zombies, so I got Akula's Skirmish Rules out. Had them on the hard drive for almost 10 years, time to give them a spin. Not bad, not bad. Requires a little work to get proper scenarios going and all of that, but overall really cool, simple and fast stuff.

@Gitsplitta: Yup. "Young ladies, you're not going out to the apocalypse dressed like that!", I said. Yeah, I'm also awfully fond of the season-themed game. Sadly I can't meet with my gaming pals these days, so I'll either solo something (sad!) or arm-twist someone here in the house to play with me. That'll require a good scenario though, and I'm having trouble finding the time to work something out!

@Dysartes: Oh, you know the kids these days. "Generation copy-paste" and all of that. Cheers. Right now I'm trying to work out how to do a "Tank" zombie. Well, of course RIGHT NOW I'm trying to finish the Heroquest figures and then do some more 40k and possibly a Rancor. But secretly on the side I'm pondering how to make a Tank...

My group had a Heroquest set at one point. Many of the figures split up among the group to make/add to WFB units.

Brings back some memories.

That's what I'd do if I was to depict a think tank.

@Captain Brown: Aye, that's a tough fate. I suppose that set will never assemble again. I got a pretty much full set of HQ figures i once "inhertited" from someone for D&D playing, but never had the floor plans, cards and so on.

Heyhey. I'll call Tank and Rooster done now.

The rooster: A beauty. No two ways about it.
The Tank: No beauty. But he's big and pink and menacing on the table. And I don't have any more time to spend on him. I'll call it 'job's an acceptable 'un'.

He's based on this figure by the way:

Gave him a bit of a demelling, replaced the right arm altogether, the hand on the left arm, buffed up the shoulders and arms, mainly redid the back of his, added some boils and spots and whatnot, done.

Update on the Heroquest set: Basically done. Just painted the standy things for the doors and the last rat and then I'll have to varnish a few bits, but then it's done. Wahey! Today a good person dropped by to give me a Van Saar gang and a Spiderman. Don't expect to see either done any time soon though; sorry.

Apart from that - did everybody have a nice weekend? Yes? Good.
I played some boardgames (Dominion - good. Dixit - good. Welcome to the Dungeon - very interesting; not for me) and some PUBG today with friends I wouldn't see otherwise. The bit about the bots aggrevates me a lot, but oh well. Still fun if I manage to forget about that.
