The title says it all, where do you find WWII tanks in a "1:56 ish" scale. anything that could fit in with 40K would work. Everything i found online was European and so I was wondering if there were any good american companies.
thanks in advance

There are a small handful of resin models in that scale for WW2 gaming.
The vast majority of WW2 tank kits are in 1/35, followed by 1/72 or HO, then 1/48.
1/56 is not a common scale for scale models. It is a common scale for gaming, though.

Ok interesting, do you know of any of those few resin models?
It never occurred to me to go bigger, its not that I would use these in a 40k game, I just don't feel comfortable painting any smaller as these are supposed to be used as a break not a challenge. Automatically Appended Next Post: Is tamiya a good brand, becuase many of the models i have read reviews for are old

Yes, Tamiya is still one of the heavyweights in the plastic model kit (especially military models) field. Good detail, often painstakingly good (you'll never complain about GW tank tracks after having to do a 1/35 tiger treads one tread at a time - and the road wheels, and suspension.). I've had no issues with their kits over the years.
There are a whole slew of military models in 1/35 (roughly 54mm, but a more anatomically correct 54mm).
Not as much in 1/48, though, and there is a lot of WW2 stuff in 1/72, 1/76 or 1/87th, and 1/100. In plastic kits.

Tamiya do a huge and superb range of WW2 tanks in 1/48th that is also matched by Hobbymaster who do more WW2 stuff in that scale.
Its a growing scale at the moment and getting increasingly popular, though it always has been among aircraft modellers.
As for resins, avoid Westwind, they are 1/60th and look teeny-tiny.
JTFM, Sloppy Jaloppy also do stuff in the 1/56th scale.
Personally, if its just for model making, then look at Tamiya and then Hobbymaster.

I think, the tanks are the right scale, but next to a gross Leman Russ with its battleship canon, realistic scale models may look too small. As may realistically scaled soldiers next to a Cadian.

Yep.
The guns on GW stuff are way out of scale to the vehicles.
Out of scale on the infantry, too.
Then again, so are the hands and heads.
